Anyone heard Vincent LS-112? I suggest a used REL as they allow a simple amp speaker output hookup and they’re cheap bought used (mine sound fabulous and cost 200 bucks each in perfect shape…a Q150e and a Q108e Mark II), and I also recommend visiting Paris in the Spring.
Just Ordered New Speakers "Golden Ear" is also the technical term doctors use for cases of extreme ear wax buildup.
SS preamp with tube amp My theory is that the signal from pretty much any good preamp is very clean, and the preamp isn’t required to do much else other than send that clean and not overdriven signal to the amp where a tube amp can add the mojo. This is my justification ...
The awful truth about CDs, do they have the same shelve life as LP's ? A fave Little Feat "boxed set" of 4 CDs from maybe 15 years ago has started to decompose (no puns please). Bummer.
Synergistic Red Fuse ... Fuses, which by nature (AC current device) cannot be "out of phase," are by nature never out of phase. If a fuse has the potential to utterly mess up the sound of your rig by being installed backwards, there is an alternative universe in play. Als...
Adventures in Table Shopping My Pearl wasn't so much a re-tip as a replacement stylus for 45 bucks from the Needle Doctor.
A speaker that looks like a driver or a driver that looks like a speaker? I think the look is opening the door to knitted speaker "cozies." Makes me nervous.
subwoofer to speaker connection Nature and live music have low frequency ambience that is something you won't have in your listening room if you can't get low frequencies in there. REL subs (like mine) for example are generally used as an addition to main speakers left unmoleste...
Why pay so much for super high end? There's a "fundamental" (!) difference between faith and personal taste.
Adventures in Table Shopping Raymonda…got the link…thanks. Regarding the Sumiko Pearl, I bought a highly regarded AT440MLA and it sounded screechy with too much treble, or at least unlistenable so off it went…the Pearl was recommended by the Natural Sound dude and he was abs...
Best budget integrated choices I think Jolida provides better value than Prima Luna at around half their price, but Prima Luna has a large advertising budget and Jolida has seemingly none, and my comments about those guys are free (hint hint JOLIDA!).
Adventures in Table Shopping I’ve been to Goodwin’s before and it was OK except for the lack of belts for my Linn…this time it was simply too weird to not mention. I realize I can get a new table online with zero hastle, and am attracted to the Pro-Ject because it seems inexp...
Best value record cleaner/cleaning system I still think the method of covering the LP with peanut butter and letting maggots eat it all off is the way to go.
Best budget integrated choices There are a lot of Jolida integrated amps around for less than 1500 bucks, many are newer versions with remotes and plenty of power from 6550s, el34s, etc…and tubes can make you seem like you care…maybe...
Adventures in Table Shopping Yeah…they're more or less nice as advertised ("no pressure"), but I would like a little more professionalism from supposed professionals…when I'm hired to run the sound for a serious show I don't think…meh…I'll just do an "ok" job. |
