how to clean vinyl lp with glue dirt I recently noticed my Linn Basik manual (from Vinyl engine or someplace) says to simply use the needle to clean your records while playing them. I use a Spin Clean (an Okki Nokki is in my near future) though, but still, a pretty funny suggestion.
If NOS pre or power tubes became unavailable altogether, what new tubes would you buy? I found that Gold Lion 12AX7s are great, as are reissued Mullards. I use NOS 12AT7 type (6201 or something) Mullards also since there seem to be lots of them, but the Lions sound fine and as long as Russia allows them to exist I'm happy with that ...
Turntable? I have a great Linn Basik/Akito bought used that cost less than 500 bucks, I get astonishing results from an underrated Sumiko Pearl cartridge, and have heard a new U-Turn Audio table that sounded killer for around 450 bucks with an Ortofon 2M Red...
Are You Sorbothane Experienced? I have a set of old heavy duty Sorbothane feet under my tube amp…these aren't as nearly squishy as Vibrapods which I use elsewhere. The residue is no biggie for me, and the heavier Vibrapods in use under my speakers work very well in decoupling th...
Power an amp and component with batteries instead of direct outlet power? I prefer to not change the batteries in my "stomp box" pedal board heap and have found serious low noise power supplies work fine. I have an old ac cabled MXR gizmo from the early 70s (I no longer use) that powered up to four devices using phone p...
ATC ACTIVE VS PASSIVE First, I think chicken wire speaker grills are fine as they do keep chickens from damaging the drivers, which can be a nightmare…so there’s that. Also, by utilizing active speakers of any kind (yeah, I recently read the ATC review in the Absolutis...
Synergistic Red Fuse ... Showing your son these posts would be a form of child abuse if he was a bit younger, but the possible damage to his psyche seems cruel even at this age. B&B…bed and breakfast or Benedictine and Brandy? And who IS Brandy and why is she still he...
Synergistic Red Fuse ... Is the circuit breaker imbued with cryoed molecules, voltage bombarding "tesla" treatment, or any other soundstage and cello enhancing mojo? If not, why is it better than a fuse? Why is any fuse (that is working properly and in the "proper" direct...
Synergistic Red Fuse ... Geoffkait…you don’t actually use fuses in your gear, correct? And Jond…the politeness and courtesy extended to me as a "worthy audio professional" (live concert sound mixer…"I get paid for this?") is nothing if not appreciated.
Let's talk Tweeters! Tweeter Mythology isn't unlike Speaker Cone Material Mythology as "doped paper" seems kind of dopey, "nanotube sandwich" sounds kind of foody, and a good designer can make music happen with either. It's still kind of interesting that piles of all ...
The "most foolish" loudspeaker tweak/upgrade ... is I think it should be possible to run redundant wiring in both directions to obviate internal (or external, like perception) issues. WIBD for short, and I think any audio geek worth their salt should rip the wire out of every component they own and...
Let's talk Tweeters! If you look up Piezo tweeters (there seems to be about a zillion pages of stuff about 'em) you'll notice that the "crystal" (or something) allows them to be used without crossovers…and these tweeters can cost less than 3 bucks. Amazing. Another no...
Too Much Power? I have turned an aesthetic corner having realized that bo1972's incomprehensible comments are actually True Art, and after criticizing him for this stuff, I now relish each post as they contain gems like this: "At the end you need all the differen...
Synergistic Red Fuse ... I'll remind people here that I'm not a mere "troll," I'm a troll that did a comprehensive test of SR fuses to put my "money where my claims are" so to speak (write), and although I don't care at all how other people spend their audio bucks I do ge...
10" subwoofer around $500, used or new? My fabulous (!) REL Q150e was bought for 200 bucks (Ebay) a few years ago and except for a missing grill cloth (easy fix) it was perfect. A great sub. Made my own Neutrik Speakon plug cable from some good wire and saved some bucks there also (love... |
