Interesting Magico news
Good point as Magico would NOT want things to become expensive.
Most coherent low volume speaker with very fast bass under 10k used?
The "fast bass" thing may exist in certain theories or somewhat useless measurements (is metal "faster" than paper?…uh…no…) but is not relevant to the ACTUAL sound of good hifi…assuming "all speakers" have this "time smear" issue is silly, as is t...
Anticables
Solid core seems to make sense and a friend of mine loves his anti cables, but they seem fragile. I use mostly AQ solid core in my rig as it seems to work...balanced and unbalanced ICs and Type 8 speaker.
LaScalla "horn" sound compared to "maggie" sound
Get some horns someplace (used pro audio could be a source) and place them (maybe suspended on wires from the ceiling) on top of your Maggies. Best of both worlds, although it's gonna look strange and perhaps the sound will suck…but there ya go.
Most coherent low volume speaker with very fast bass under 10k used?
Low volume listening isn't necessarily compatible with higher level listening as a design conundrum exists…Fletcher Munson et al...powered subs ("fast" bass is a term I find meaningless) can help if low level listening is what you want…you can tur...
Agoners: Need Advice! Have 3K to spend on an Amp, what do I do with no way to audition?
Since you might not live past Thursday, get a tube amp. Tube amps are more interesting, and often make make the owner of tube gear "seem" more interesting. A win win. Also, no amp (or pretty much any piece of audio gear) can really be auditioned e...
Time to upgrade the old Dual turntable, looking for opinions.
I have to remove the platter to put my Linn into 45 mode…I know I'll never get that 30 seconds back...*sigh*…and I'm often slightly drunk as I'm forcing dinner guests to listen to a single I played on in 1981…always worth it by the way…great singl...
Old Amp vs. New Amp
Lots of new and slightly used stuff is inexpensive if you have the patience to look around. Ebay and Audiogon listings can be your friend.
Which is the Better Tonearm - Pro-Ject or Rega?
Was Donkey Kong a mistake?
Time to upgrade the old Dual turntable, looking for opinions.
I use a Linn Basik/Akito (replaced the cable with a nice Mogami Jelco) rig and it’s so good I’m only considering replacing it because I don’t want to be there when it dies. I’ve concluded the following: Regas don’t allow for VTA adjustment, I unde...
Old Amp vs. New Amp
My 1961 Fender Deluxe amp needed maintenance for leaking caps after only 40 years…damn…the amp worked fine before the new caps were put in but still, who needs that sort of hastle every 40 years?
They Almost Never Quote A Price , Why?
I'm still shocked that wood glue has become so expensive.
Help me get started again. Tube amp...
Jolida makes some of the best sounding amps out there, and they're relatively inexpensive.  Simple push-pull Ultralinear designs, easy maintenance bias adjustment…blah blah…my 502P amp with factory upgrades sounds amazing, and has for years. A use...
When and how did you, if at all, realize vinyl is better?
I like digital in my rig and it generally sounds fine (perhaps due to a good DAC and the tubes in my amp), but LPs can sound sort of amazing for all the reasons listed above and I have lots of them so I play the damn things. Somebody wrote a great...
Coherent Speakers from Canada
Coherent, if they're serious about actually selling these things, should hire somebody to put together a website. Or simply get a reasonably adept high school kid to do one for free as an intern.
