Phono-pre: subsonic filter on or off ? I had a KAB rumble filter that I could switch in and out. Woofer movement was a problem with my HW-19 an assortment of tube gear and TT positioned well away on a wall rack. I was even surprised when I had the TT sitting solidly on a brick hearth. ...
Anti skating SME V Check the position of the tonearm while at rest. There is a template for this. If the arm is not at the right angle in relation to the table, anti-skate will be screwed up.
Why Use Aluminum for a TT Platter? "Belt drives...in terms of speed accuracy, are clearly inferior to properly implemented direct drive tables."Humm, proof, evidence to back this up?
I am at the end of my rope, please help Send it to me, I'll throw it away for you cheap. But seriously, why did you buy another multi-thousand dollar cartridge instead of spending a couple of hundred or even less for an inexpensive trial cart? Your story is just so odd. $83,000 spent wi...
Raking Angle My local hardware store and hobby stores carry plastic as well as brass strips and rods in the tiniest of diameters. Like piano wire. I'd think that little pieces slipped under the rear of the cart would work and be repeatable. Check this link: ht...
New favorite VINYL Album? Just listened to Down And Dirty by Widespread Panic (gotta love the name.) Great 2 album pressing. Quiet as death too.
VPI motor popping noise upon startup/shut off No, perfectly silent. I do get the popping SOMETIMES when I turn the TT off at the motor switch even though the motor is running through the SDS. Not always tho.
Please simplify Disc Doctor Cleaner w/ VPI 16.5 While I don't use the DD solutions, you can do either, applying fluids while turning or with the platter stopped. I do it while turning as well as spreading the fluid with the brushes while turning. With my 16.5, I vacuum the fluids off with a wan...
Adjusting SRA using macro lens vs microscope Dougdeacon, I wasn't really saying YOU were dismissing A/S. From reading your posts I cannot believe you would dismiss anything. However, everything from no anti-skate to setting it using blank LPs has been advocated as correct. I was just saying ...
Adjusting SRA using macro lens vs microscope What I find interesting is the focus on correct SRA whether set by sight or sound but the consistent dismissal of the anti-skate issue. We are so focused on SRA and setting it for each record but everything from disabling anti-skate to setting it ...
analog newbie question/vinyl weight Just off the cuff.. I think changing the record height or thickness will change the SRA much more than changing the pivot height a similar amount. It is early though.
VPI bearing oil/grease? I think much of the confusion revolves around the inverted bearing type vs the well type. My understanding is that the well types require oil such as mobile 1 or as Mike recommended on my HW-19 and TNT, Tufoil. The inverted types require something...
Phono cartridge for classic rock I also agree with the Blackbird. Worked nicely on both my HW-19 with audioquest arm as well as on my TNT w/ SME-V arm. I am replacing it with a Benz Glider since I broke my Blackbird. I will have it retipped at Soundsmith tho. In comparison, the G...

VPI HW19MKIV huming motor Check that the pulley has not become loose on the shaft.. There is a tiny allen set screw in the side of the pulley that may have come loose. See if you can pull the pully up off the shaft. |
