From an MHDT to an Audio Mirror, quick impressions
@chayro  My experience is limited to my original post but I'll try.   The AM recently opened up, bringing more feel to the venue. Powerful below 30 Hz or so (compared to the Orchid.) A big factor in choosing this DAC (by reputation) was electri...
Best Alignment Protractor?
@melm   I used  “Perfect theoretical alignment”  as meaning perfect overhang and zenith for the scheme used, knowing full well that the scheme is a compromise and not tracking perfectly at all places on the record.  No need to read more into it ...
Best Alignment Protractor?
@melm You’re not wrong but "perfect theoretical alignment" to the scheme used by Mint. That is, overhang and zenith, compromise that it is. Once you’ve used a Mint you know the reference.
Best Alignment Protractor?
I currently own a Feickert and a Mint.   The Feickert gets me quickly to where I can tweak by ear (and o-scope in my case) which is the final step in any alignment no matter how accurate.     Mint's protractor based on perfect theoretical alignm...
Counter weights on your turntable...another dirty little secret?
The supplied counterweight is a standard   "no. 183 for cartridges with weight between 7 - 14g" The chosen cartridge weighs 6.3 gm The online seller didn't do his homework.  It most likely wasn't  possible to get the weight any closer to the to...
The ”sweetspot” in the Nordost line of cables
I’ve had Heimdall, Frey 2 and Tyr 2.  The series 1 has a well deserved reputation for weak bass (brightness).  The series 2 fixed that and is a nicely balanced cable.  My opinion of the three:  The Heimdall was just ok.  The Frey 2 was pretty good...
Anyone know where the Virtual Systems went?
@phusis  Thank you!
Anyone know where the Virtual Systems went?
Mine stopped working last week.
Digital is far better than vinyl
Not that long ago the best analog was king but that isn’t responsible for the current popularity of vinyl.  It’s the budget systems.  Cheap digital hurts your ears.  Cheap vinyl doesn’t and, assuming the table is set up competently, sounds way bet...

new old Larger images are in the virtual system view. True color is satin aluminum, inbetween my flash blue and the stock photo sepia.

About 25 hours now and it's a keeper.  The only downer is the stock knobs are frumpy.  I added guitar amp knobs.  They're beautiful.  View my virtual system for a peek.
Rossini Internet Radio
I followed their link to the Apple store and downloaded the dcs Mosaic Control app. It wanted to search for dcs gear and, had I any, I could have selected internet radio or other internet streaming sources from my iPad. Pretty standard for streami...

My further impressions another 4 hours in: Delicate signals have location, articulation and body.  I can easily follow backstage instruments and vocals to the micro level. Nothing etched or exaggerated.  Natural. Treble is sweet.  Not rolled off...
Diagnosing inadequate bass in an audio system.
For starters, check if speakers are wired in phase.   Does the amp have plenty of power or just the bare minimum per the speaker manufacturer? Are the speakers known for leanness/ fullness/neutral bass? Speaker position.  Too far into room or fa...

@decooney  I use  Wireworld Starlight 8 coax, never tried the other formats.  Still new at this.  Been into analog forever.
