Is my Amp OK?
Sonic differences between well designed amplifiers are minimal at most. All relevant measurements of good amplifiers show imperfections that are well below human hearing acuity. The only remaining things that matter are the potential for gain mism...
Tuners
Indeed. By now internet radio is at least as good (though with different weaknesses) as FM. Some higher bitrate stations are even far better. And you get the world in your home. Just add a Chromecast Audio to an existing system and you are done.
Please recommend a PreAmp for my 5.1 home theatre system

Greatest Dowsing Rod Ever Fantastic Sound Tuning Ability
Great - there will be plenty of suckers who will fall for this.

Dynamic compression in speakers themselves?
A lot of sensible things have been said thus far. Do not forget the amplifier part: for great dynamics you need a beefy (solid state) amplifier. A few hundred (pro audio) watts will do no harm.
Looking for speaker recommendations that I can purchase on Amazon.com
What you are describing are precisely the benefits of big power. As you Americans say about car engines: there is nothing that beats cubic inches. Just imagine the amount of physical energy produced by a symphony orchestra. The speakers have to re...

Somebody here questioned the Yamaha P5000S amplifier. The link that I posted to the smaller P3500S showed that that is a perfectly neutral amplifier that measured exceptionally well. Frequency response is perfectly flat, even well above the range ...
The MP3 is finally...dead!
I think I can hear the difference between 320 kbs mp3 and lossless CD Red Book, but I am not sure I am right. There is indeed a lot of research that suggests that there is no audible difference. The Harbeth User Group is about to organize a test f...
Benchmark AHB2 amplifier - what to expect?
The AHB2 is not class D, even if energy consumption is low.
Harbeth Question
Harbeths are great but the choice of the right model depends on room size and budget.
DSPeaker Anti-mode 8033 ii works wonders with my new sub
So you don't need a second 8033 or a dual core. Since you can invert phase on the SB2000 you do not even have to get a Y cable.
DAC break-in...
I quite like capitalism, but with Pareto I would claim it requires a transparent market. These monopolistic competiton tricks by boutique manufacturers claiming differences that do not exist are a scam.As for DACs, I am usually listening to the in...
Oppo BDP-105 Volume Control?
Your Rotel probably had a higher output than the 2.0 Volt of standard RedBook CD. Be glad the Oppo conforms to the standard, as this reduces the chance that you get clipping of the signal on input.
New system has fatiguing, harsh high frequency sounds. How to fix?
Unless the amplifier has a sleep mode (many modern ones do, if only because some countries now mandate them), typical idle consumption of an AB amp is some 50-150 watt. Take 100 watt for a calculation: leave it on all day that is 2400 watt per day...
