How do SVS subwoofers compare to REL?
Indeed and I think we effectly agree. I agree that there is little or no useful music signal below 25 Hz, and to be sure, for this and other reasons I am not a fan of huge woofers either. What I tried to say is that the issue of setting subwo...
Looking for speaker recommendations that I can purchase on Amazon.com
This makes it perfectly clear: you want a euphonic system, including even order harmonic distortion. That is up to you. Conversely, I don’t want any distortion, just a straight wire with gain. I don’t want electronics to have a sound of their own....
Quad ESL-63 and low-powered amps; Sun Audio, Atma
Montaldo, I don't think we need to be omniscient for this - we will never be. Let us not forget that the job of an amplifier is an easy one: it just has to amplify an electrical signal without otherwise changing it. Fortunately absolute perfection...

Douglas, thanks for an elegant response.
How do SVS subwoofers compare to REL?
It is true that under those conditions you have excluded a lot by defining it away, but in reality big drivers are likely to go deeper. That was my point. However, I am not excluding the possibility that big drivers are flabby and not as accurate....
Is powerfull Amps only for low sensitivity speakes?
So I guess you started the equation with a lower power requirement for average level, by e.g. using more efficient speakers and/or a small listening room. And 4 Ohm is also pretty low.
2018 exactly what is ‘High End’ audio?
+1 And if you do go to live events of acoustic music, and larger scale classical music in particular, you soon realize that what you can reproduce at home is only a postage stamp size version of it. Fortunately the brain is pretty good at compens...
How do SVS subwoofers compare to REL?
I really think ’speed’ is not a property of the subwoofer driver, but of the room acoustics. If you look at waterfall graphs of low frequency output, you can see that the lingering of some low fequencies is at room modes. Deal with those, and your...
Is powerfull Amps only for low sensitivity speakes?
This may be interesting: http://www.harbeth.co.uk/usergroup/forum/the-science-of-audio/amplifier-matching-mismatching-and-cli...The point is that with significant dynamic range the peak power required is much higher than the average. In the quoted...
What is really the purpose of streaming??
My analogy is that of the difference between your own personal library of thousands of books, and access to a large university library with millions. Of course, you don't own those millions, but you have unlimited access.
Does a streamer do anything to the data that Tidal provides?
@sevs In effect this is a question about which of the two digital volume controls it would be best to use. To be honest I don't know. These days, with DAC's with a 32 bit internal bit depth, digital volume control should not be an issue. Intuitive...
need advice for sound improvement
True, but most speaker crossovers are designed to have the tweeter at ear height for optimum integration between the drivers. I would prioritize this variable.
Quad ESL-63 and low-powered amps; Sun Audio, Atma
No, that is a misrepresenttaion of my position. What I said earlier was that they should be judged within their design parameters. So as long as a well designed amplifier is not driven into clipping it should sound the same as another one not driv...
Digital Audio Player
See here for an in depth test: http://marlene-d.blogspot.nl/2015/06/review-fiio-x5-loaned-by-fiio.htmlPretty good, therefore. You might just possibly hear an improvement with an external DAC, but it would have to be a rather good one like a Benchm...

+1 I own their later incarnation, the 2805, after having owned the original ELS57 for many years. The 2805 (and 63) has a pretty low sensitivity (lower than the ELS57). Originaly I drove my 2805’s with my old 2x45 watt Quad 303 power amp, but that...
