DIY Pass Labs First Watt F5 amp impressions
Update:  I earlier stated that the F5 runs as hot as a tube amp with four KT88 tubes.  That assertion is clearly wrong.  While the F5 runs much warmer than class A/B amps I have had, it generates nowhere near the heat generated by a robust tube am...
2017 Honest Cabling that doesn’t promote bankruptcy
I have upgraded to Cerious Technologies Graphene PC and IC's in my system and they are quite good.  For my speakers, I found a significant improvement upgrading to the Supra Ply 3.4 tinned copper wire.  For my bedroom system, vintage WE 16 ga. tin...
What is your speaker ownership history since 1995?
Very interesting thread started here  I thought I had the jones bad for speaker upgrades, but am a plebe compared to some of your fellows.  List of speakers from 1973 to 2017: Rectilinear III Highboys (outstanding speakers!) AR bookshelfs JBL L100...
DIY Pass Labs First Watt F5 amp impressions
Pass Labs sells factory-built First Watt amps, as well as panoply of Pass Labs amps.  A great source is Mark at Reno Hifi.  Mine was built by a guy who took the plans that Nelson Pass has generously made freely available for DIY folks.  This fello...

I too await a report on the LTA amp from Kenny.  I seem to recall Julius Futterman might have been a early designer and user of this circuitry.

Larryi, Thanks for you keen observations.  I would agree that there is a slightly hard edge to the leading attack of notes with F5.

Kenny,We evidently traveled the same path with the Class D amps. I do think they have a lot to commend themselves, but after listening to them for a few weeks, something was missing.  The lacuna of sound is only apparent by comparing it to other a...
Best high-efficiency speaker under 10K
You can have audio nirvana for around $3K with Spatial Audio Hologram M3 Turbo speakers.  They are the best speakers I have ever heard under $10K.
Has anyone considered rebuying a speaker you once owned??
Rectilear III's (not the low boys).  I got them 40 years ago and sold them 30 years ago, but they were sublime.
MRI grade vs Hospital grade electric outlets
I just got the Porter Ports wired to the outlet for my system and I a bit puzzled as I honestly expected zero improvement.  I have called BS on the "fuse-heads" and a boatload of other tweaks I have tried and rejected.  While my impressions are pu...
Thinking of replacing my Bat spaceheater with class D, real world thoughts please
This an an excellent thread with lots of contrasting views.  I have recently auditioned the NuPrime ST-10 and the Red Dragon S-500 class D stereo amps.  I thought they both sounded excellent, no question, and they run very cool.  After about 60 ho...
Lifters ForGetting Cables Off The Floor, Worth It Or Snake Oil
2channel8,I just popped back to see where this silly thread has gone and think you might have the most insightful post of all.  High anxiety and OCD runs rampant in society, with sellers guilting folks into buying products of little or no utility....
Lifters ForGetting Cables Off The Floor, Worth It Or Snake Oil
Geoff has as comrade in arms with Teo weighing in on the question raised by the OP.  I hear nothing but pablum from the two of them.  Kooky nonsense, really.  However, if there is some benefit from elevating speaker cable, then get a saw and cut u...
Jazz for aficionados
I just got turned on to Karen Souza who I am listening to round the clock.   She does covers of popular music with a decidedly jazz spin.
High End Amp Price Collapse musings
This is an amazing and rational thread. I am currently auditioning a  Nuprime ST10 and Red Dragon S500 class D amps, but well $2K, and they are quite good.  However, these class D amps do, frankly, seem less musically involving that that fine tube...
