TheVinylPress.com tz- if you like Wally T's mastering and a little metal, Iron Maiden's Number of the Beast is amazing. - I never would have listened to this when I was younger- now, really dig a lot of stuff I missed, ignored or shunned. Thanks for your note.
RCA Classic Records-180 versus 200 gram Michael Hobson, who ran Classic Records, used to have a blog where he discussed the problems encountered when he switched to 200g flat profile records. The blog is now gone as far as I know- since Chad bought what remained of the company. There we...
Dedicated Line(s), One Line or Two? Pretty clever there, Terry. Rather than using the transformer to isolate the digital side, use it to isolate the analog side from everything else via the dedicated line and plug the CD into a non-dedicated line. It’s another visit from an electric...
Dedicated Line(s), One Line or Two? Let me throw a question into the mix that may help. I have multiple dedicated lines but they are still affected by noise elsewhere in the household electrical system since, by code, they must still share a ground. So, I guess my question is whethe...
Forward or laid back hm1 - with due respect, I think you are still stuck in the '80s. Most of us don't even bother to argue these issues any more. But, don't let me stop you. Thanks for visiting planet audio.
Forward or laid back hm1- I don’t think you get away that easily. Please re-read my previous post: the question of "perspective" that you seem to be complaining about really starts with the recording. And much of what I described pertains to orchestral recordings and ...
Who in the North New Jersey area. to set up and dial in turntable? Good for you, GEG! I'm in NY right now, but hankering to get back to Texas. Welcome to your new home- that's exciting.
Forward or laid back Don't we have to start with how the recording was recorded? Some audiophile records and some classical and jazz records were set up to get a pretty natural perspective on the proceedings. (Simple two track recordings of a blues band, or man + guit...
Question about valves running hours migueca- I don't know about military/industrial practice, but back in the '60s, it was pretty common for tubes (and free standing tube testing machines that looked like ATMs in size) to be everywhere- drug stores, hardware stores, electronic speci...
What is best turntable for listening to Rock from the sixties like Led Zeppelin? td160- and attention to the pressings, which vary considerably in what is emphasized.
What is best turntable for listening to Rock from the sixties like Led Zeppelin? As impressive a roster as any. Those shows in that era covered a huge range of different types and styles of music, and I don't think the audiences were all that different- you could hear soul or boogie one night and go psychedelic the next.
Is a stereo amp, when bridged to mono, by definition differential? Thanks for explaining, Al. They were interesting to use.
Is a stereo amp, when bridged to mono, by definition differential? So, let me throw in a question about that Audiopax amp- the 88, if memory serves, which consisted of two mirror image amp circuits that were combined in a single channel with controls that allowed you to vary their performance in relation to each ...
What is best turntable for listening to Rock from the sixties like Led Zeppelin? So, Wolf, have you gone to hear David Lindley do his one man shows? He is out and about again. Killer player, great range of stringed instruments. (And, not too loud, which always kills it for me- he used to use a Dumble but I think he just uses t...
What is best turntable for listening to Rock from the sixties like Led Zeppelin? I know, as I guess any Zep fan does, that Page used a Tele on Zep 1 with a small overdriven amp. When he started using Les Pauls, I think he overdrove them by using the Echoplex preamp into the amps- Marshalls? Live -very loud.Reproducing that at ... |
