Whole House Mains Wiring -- Ping: Jea48 (Jim) -- & ALL Others for your HELP!
@jea48 said: "If you have not watched the Cary Grant movie, " Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House", I highly recommend you watch it."The painter scene is a classic. Kind of sums up a lot about the nuances of obsession translated into contractor-e...
Are the Mods handling these forums as well as they could be? How can we help them?
The TOU here, like most boards, prohibit posts that are abusive, harassing, etc, and permit the PTB (Powers That Be) to remove offending posts or terminate accounts. In my experience, boards have a culture and are within that culture, self-moderat...
Looking for vintage Quad ESL's - or my wife thinks a "shrink" becase she says I'm crazy!
You've already discovered Kent McCollum at Electrostatic Solutions- can he help source a pair for rebuild?I bought mine in 1973 and used them until 1990 when I changed to the Crosby modded Quad 63. The original pair was put in crates that were lef...
Multiple copies of the same album?
@bdp24 - do you have Fahey’s ’67 version of Death Chants, Breakdowns & Military Waltzes?BTW, your input would be valued here: https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/rythmik-subwoofer @elizabeth - so nice to see you posting again. I got bored w...
Multiple copies of the same album?
Yes, though mostly multiple different pressings of the same LP, often different countries or masterings. Most of the time I do this purposely, to find a better sounding copy, though I seem to have a habit of buying records I already own sometimes....
Rythmik subwoofer
I think you'll find a number of threads on the Rythmik products- I have a few of their subs but don't use them with Maggies. If @bdp24 reads this, he may help b/c he is familiar with their use in conjunction with planars. They make an open baffle ...
Oh no, there's metal in your records!
@moonglum - well done. I gather that regrinding is still common today, but that the issue of metal fragments is not as much of a problem. See https://www.ptonline.com/articles/a-vinyl-record-business-grows-in-brooklynI was told recently...
marantz model 9 service
Bill's company website is here: http://musictechnology.com/about-us.htmlWhen you call, you may or may not get him on the phone directly, but if you explain your situation and ask for him to call you back to discuss, I have no doubt he w...
Done buying new vinyl
I buy a lot of vinyl, mostly used but some new and new reissues of old stuff. Grading inflation is pretty bad- it’s almost luck of the draw. There are a few places that are almost unimpeachable, but you pay top dollar for their copies and if it is...
marantz model 9 service
Where are you located? Bill Thalmann is top notch, located in Virginia. He recently restored a bunch of vintage tube electronics for me- very focused on SQ and well as respect for the original piece. (He was the tech director at C-J for many years...
Dylan...whats the deal?
That's a good era for Dylan in my estimation. (He's lived 9 lives, at least).I'm friends with Rob Stoner, who played bass and was his bandleader at the time. I seem to remember some fancy boxed set (Classic Records?) from the tour(s), but not sure...
Oh no, there's metal in your records!
I don’t know about metal, but as almost anyone who has handled LPs knows, they are prone to static charges. Thus, the use of additives, such as carbon black, which served several purposes, one of which was to make the record more conductive, to le...
Quad ESL-63 and low-powered amps; Sun Audio, Atma
I had great success using 60-70 watt ARC tube amps when I ran Quad 63s (mine were Crosby modified). I went from the 57, which was augmented with a sub and ribbon tweeters and found the 63 (without the need to supplement) to be the better all aroun...
Too Much Music: A Failed Experiment In Dedicated Listening
The author’s premise is that technology has changed our relationship to recorded music- too many choices, too little understanding. Letting an algorithm "curate" is no substitute for learning and better understanding the music and its context. But...
Article about us Audiophiles: 'Audiophilia Forever'
Thanks for posting. More right than wrong with that article. I remember Denby as a film guy from my years in New York. Very few audiophiles in the mainstream press, and it's usually about how outrageous the prices are, or questioning the 'vinyl re...
