The magic of outdoor listening
Wow.  Sounds like somebody got up this morning, slipped into a new pair of BVDs and forgot to take the cardboard out of them first? As a group we're probably not the guys who, when turning into our street driving our hot rods, depress the clutch ...
Thermal Distortion your loudspeaker most likely suffers from it. But do you care?
VERY good information to add to my (limited) knowledge base. Might also explain why it's extremely difficult for me to endure the 3rd (and featured) act of live performances?  As the evening progresses, the "tech" running the sound board bumps...
I wonder what you would think if we scheduled a monthly Zoom Meeting?
I have "radio face" -- a face made for radio. Save me a front row seat -- as a spectator.
The magic of outdoor listening
Okay, guys.  Don't try this at home.  Unless, of course, you love bass, pyrotechnics, and the shocking look of bewilderment on the faces of your guests. This is a project I did a while back.  The concept was to use the bass vents from buried subw...
I am so happy.....
Great posts!! It's been said that as we get older we choose between the "scerinity," and "the hit".  Inner peace, or the next adrenaline rush.  Music can give us both (sometimes in the same piece).  I disagree, in principal, with the statement: "...
Why do I need power management if I have a great power cord?
@hilde45 +1.  And, thank you.
Speakers: Anything really new under the sun?
The short answer is "yes", but if you put it on a graph it would look like a "smiley face" with the biggest gains at the budget level and extreme high ends.  The mid-band of the range has been generally getting it right for quite a while.  Gains i...
Looking for Blues with High Fidelity
Here's some cuts that come to mind: Ronnie Earl and the Broadcasters- Kansas City Monarch Stevie Ray Vaughn - Tin Pan Alley (Roughest Place I've Ever Been) Jennifer Warnes- Invitation to the Blues Satori in Chicago - a song by Noah Wotherspoon
Buying used vs new speakers from a technology perspective
Short Answer:   Yes, speaker technology has advanced.  But, it would resemble something like a "smiley face" if you put it on a graph. The greatest gains would be at the low end and extreme high end of the spectrum.   Long(er) Answer: Speakers...
What is your favorite cover?
Quicksilver Messenger Service - Happy Trails (Roy Rogers & Dale Evans) Tomita - Pictures at an Exhibition (Mussosky/Various Artists) The Force - Star Wars Disco (John Williams) Manfred Mann - Blinded by the Light (Bruce Springsteen) Honora...
For all you Bose 901 Haters!
@firberger Glad to put a smile on your face. I never owned a pair of 901s.  Then again, I never owned a Volkswagen Bus.  But, I can certainly appreciate whey they had a strong appeal and emotional attachment to their owners.
No more "High End" for me...Back to Reality Audio
@gkr7007  Absolutely on board with #1-6 related to your Cornwall performance mods. I like to add a few more: 7) replace all internal cabling with the same (or better) cabling used from the amplifier to speaker terminals. 8) bypass PC traces on ...
No more "High End" for me...Back to Reality Audio
@rajugsw The exit from my roller coaster ride aligned with the decline of my quality of my hearing.  I became a much more tolerant of imperfection when I couldn't hear the difference anymore.  Now I have 8 cars, and less audio equiopment.   Your ...

For all you Bose 901 Haters!
Part 1:  The Bose Phenomenon   Love them.  Or hate them.  Bose 901s were (and remain) a phenomenon.  Whether they are more impactful as a cultural phenomenon, or an audio phenomenon is a good topic for debate, but 901s were and are a phenomenon....
