Equalizers anyone?
Tomryan: Send me your address and I'll send you Audio Control. Be sure to do some research. You'll learn a flat room response is not what necessarily sounds best. As a matter of fact almost nobody likes what truly flat sounds like as the bass is t...
Equalizers anyone?
The equalizers people shun are exactly what would help a good many of one. I'm using an Audio Control C101 series three that is mandatory in my well treated room with four bass traps. A db or two here and there can make a big difference in overal ...
Why even bother?
I have a modded Kenwood Kt 7500 and listen to a local jazz station that easily rivals cd's at times. Records sound like they are in my system almost with the typical vinyl surface noise with clicks and pops here and there. Dynamics(due to very lit...
Sssss...sibilance?
The sibilance region is 3-6khz. Try different positioning of your speakers and/or listening position. Room treatment can help most any system without it. Go learn about room acoustics at realtraps and rives audio.
Need Help with Hum
The polarity checker for checking to make sure the wires are correct only costs 5 bucks and you just plug it in, I'd do this to make sure they are right. Besides you can check the other outlets in your house while you're at it. I had a similar iss...
Thoughts/experiences with VMPS
VMPS does an outstanding job of offering the best sound per dollar I know of. Of course there's many speakers I haven't heard but Brian's speakers per dollar are true bargains. Haven't heard the 30's but the 40's are a step above anything I've hea...
tube or tube-like amp recommendations?
I use an ARC LS 16 tube pre. It is just slightly tubey but did the trick. I don't think too many SS amps are going to do what I think you want. Try a tube pre, you won't go back. Also some tube pre's have a home theater bypass so you can run throu...
system opinions?
If you're going to use any foam you need at least 3" foam to do any significant good. You want real acoustic foam with an NRC rating. The 1 inch stuff only absorbes the highest frequencies and is little more than useless. Acoustic foam is a bargai...
VMPS RM 30 or RM 40-VS- Von Schweikert VR4 Series?
I'd like to hear from the same people. I know a guy at AC went to a dealer I think in Washington D.C. who carries both and ended up with the RM 40's. You can probably find out what he said with a search at the VMPS circle at audiocircle.com. The V...
Sound is too thin. What to upgrade, add or remove?
There are some room treatments available that look nice. Room treatment is a huge step up in a room like that. Even just a couple of panels and maybe two bass traps if possible. At minimum you should research room acoustics. Go to the room simulat...
CD Changer, Carousel, oy HELP.
You're welcome. Should have mentioned that ES stands fore "Elevated Standard". Good luck.
CD Changer, Carousel, oy HELP.
I believe he may not understand that the Sony players that are recommended are ES players. Sony ES is a line that is superior to what you'll find in Best Buy or Circuit City type stores. Build quality and design and parts are superior. Also they c...
Best Speaker matches for Parasound Halo JC-1's ?
The VMPS RM 40's will be very difficult to match much less beat in that price category. You should at least give them a listen. Go to audiocircle.com and there may be a dealer or an owner who will let you audition. You have some excellent possibil...
Best $500 combo player
I'm very pleased with the Sony Dvpnc 555 es 5 disc changer. SACD and redbook both sound good. Like it better than the outboard dac I was using. There's no reviews yet but it can be had for under 500 if you look. List is 600.
Tube Preamplifier for Krell KSA200S
Audio Research may be good. There are varying amounts of tubeyness in different tube pre's. The ARC's are more accurate but some people find them not tubey enough. Personally I think it's just right.
