12au7 tube?
Audiojan There are tons of variables for 12 AU7s and 6SN7s, as you've already seen. Whenever I need honest advice and a HUGE selection of tubes, I reach out to Brent Jessee. His tubes are not the cheapest, but he carries a large stock, and stands...
Considering the BMR Philharmonic Monitor speakers
Ignore the negative comments about Philharmonic, they excellent speakers for not much money. Dennis Murphy has been designing speakers and crossovers for over 20 years, consulting and for Salk Sound and Philharmonic.
Integrated amp with preamp tubes
OP I do not own one, but one of my friends recently installed an Advance Paris A12 in his second system man cave/golf simulator room. I have not heard it yet, but he is happy driving Sonus Faber Olympica speakers.......and this guy has Aric Audio...
Stereo Times review on the Tekton Design Encore Monitor
fsonicsmith I appreciate your point of view, but with Teajay I believe it is misguided. He (Terry) has posted some excellent reviews in the past, and let Agoners know in advance. I appreciate that he has reviewed some excellent gear, much of whic...
Has anyone tried these SnugPlugs?
+++++++1 to just replace the receptacle. You will get a vice grip type connection, and superior audio performance. I've tried well over a dozen receptacles, and all improved the sound over a stock socket. Look around for prices, they can vary by a...
Considering the BMR Philharmonic Monitor speakers
I've heard the BMRs on multiple occasions, and they were impressive each and every time. I would have bought them on my last bookshelf speaker purchase, but there was a stock issue at the time.....and I could not get a straightforward answer on de...
I should start with speakers. This I know. I’d like to establish a new system.
OP The Volti, Fyne, Pure Audio Project, are all over 95db efficient and very easy to drive....this will keep your costs down since you don't need a really powerful amp to drive them. The Yamaha NS5000 is not bad at 88db either, and most Sonus Fab...
I should start with speakers. This I know. I’d like to establish a new system.
Since you asked about speakers, all used: Volti Razz $4,500ish, Joseph Audio Pulsar 2 Graphene $7,000ish, Revel Salon 2 $9,500ish, Fyne Audio Vintage Classic X $5,000ish - Classic XII $6,500 - Whatever F700 series you can afford, Sonus Faber ??? m...
I Was A Skeptic Now I'm Not So Sure
alan60 You found out two things, that even digital cables matter (greatly in some cases), and that Supra makes really really good entry level cables.....congrats
R2R next? Don't like ESS
++++++1 for Denafrips. I am a long time Denafrips owner, and have tested all of their DACs up to the Terminator (not the Terminator Plus). They've all been brilliant in their price range. I'll be replacing my DAC this year, and the Denafrips Termi...
Best Used Tube Based Preamp $2k Or Under?
nightfall If I had $3,000 I would look for a used Aric Audio or Supratek preamp. However when they do go up, they only last a day or so.....if that long. You could buy a new Supratek Chardonnay for $2,500 with black powder coat, or $3,000 in a be...

A cable too perfect?
zlone Thank you for the heads up, I'll have to add some Neotech rectangular cable to the collection.
A cable too perfect?
lorde73 Sorry for the delayed post, I've been out of the country for the last month. I have rotated through a bunch of mid-priced cables, but will only talk about what I have now....the rest I gave to audiophile buddies. I have (and rotate throu...
