Maggies and subwoofer integration Check out Mike Powell's site, "The OCD Guy". He seems in touch with matching subwoofers to planar's. With Quads, I have never heard a subwoofer keep up with them.
Old phones as streaming sources I have an S21 with half a terabyte of memory and I put most of my CD's in it as WAV files. Plug that into a Mojo and headphones into that and it makes for a nice little setup. Sometimes I use it in the car system.
Does a turntable mat make any difference? Yes, they do and you can forget about any specific recommendation from this thread unless they have your turntable, maybe arm combination. There are simply too many variables.
Did your system getting better the more money you spent or more experience you gained? More money was the answer. I knew what I wanted sonically and tried to do it on a lesser budget and it was fine but didn't have that certain something I was looking for. Now it sings and waxes poetic to me and I am happy with it.
Speaker Spikes - Working Principle @kraftwerkturbo Really? You thought I meant that a tweeters motion is moving the cabinet. I reread your question and my response and I suppose that I should have said that the bass drivers in the speaker cabinet would cause a slight motion, enou...
What to do with dead equipment Sell it for whatever you can get for it. It just seems like a shame to throw out something like that. If you were attempting a repair one more time, I’d recommend Stereo Rehab here in Chicago. If it is repairable, Casper(proprietor) will repair it...
A Few Nice Words For Upscale Audio Now that's great service and October 23 is my birthday. That must have been the reason.
Why do I prefer R2R over Chip based DAC's? Maybe the fact that some of the best DACs/players deal with the signal in an (almost ?) pure discrete fashion rather than purely in chips/chipsets. R-2R DAC’s can be designed in silicon but there are discrete component designs. Some like in the Es...
Why do I prefer R2R over Chip based DAC's? @czarivey Technically not R2R, but R-2R. Rather than me fumbling through typing a treatise on R-2R DACs, maybe this fairly simple to read article can help: https://www.electronics-tutorials.ws/combination/r-2r-dac.html
Ken Fritz article @decooney “Nobody wanted to come to our house, because he wanted to put them to work,” said his daughter Patty, 58. “I think we went camping twice, never took vacation. It was just work, work, work.” One's passion is another one's hell. ...
New Phono Cart with Character Needed Your issue might be the GrooveTracer upgrades you did. Frankly, the bearing is inferior to the original and wears out much faster and the Delrin platter or any of the plastic platters dull the sound of a Rega. The glass platter has a livelier so...
Your greatest high end audio purchase!!! It was a really nice pair of original Quad 57's that came with a pair of Futterman H3aa's that I picked up in the mid-eighties that I'll count as one. It was always a love/hate relationship; I always wanted more output out of them and I'd go ba...
What's up with the price of Vintage equipment? @jhnnrrs Just wait until Crosely's and its crappy ilk start having vintage tacked to them. You're going to pull your hair out! Honestly, though, it's nostalgia with the latest generation and the really pricey stuff, I'll assume a lot of it is pe...
Anyone listen to Music on a FM tuner anymore? Listening to jazz on 89.3, WNUR, Northwestern University as I type this. I like listening to the college stations here in Chicago; 88.7, WLUW, Loyola, 88.3, WBEZ North Eastern, 90.9, WDCB, College Of DuPage for new and interesting music I'm not f...
Speaker Spikes - Working Principle Geez! For the last forty years, I've followed Linn's maxim that the speaker should not move a millimeter. In other words when I place my hand on the speaker it should not move side to side, back and forth, not rock at all! Time and time again I... |
