What’s really hurting the audio hobby?
Would people be interested in a new thread to talk about the good dealers? I have heard of some mentioned in this post like Echo and Gig Harbor. That’s impressive since they are halfway across the country from here. There are many more I’m sure.

Elizabeth, I sort of see your point. But I hadn’t been back to the audio dealer I wrote about in years because of the previous experiences I had there. There were other dealers in the area that received my business. Those other dealers are closed ...
Fans on amps.
With Class A amps in a cabinet I run these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/ya/ref=ppx_yo_mob_b_bia_view?ie=UTF8&ac=bia&reorder_params=B00J...silent and effective
Sound quality vs. volume
Go get a pack of Roxol/rockwool for $50. I like the packs that are 12 slabs of 3.5 inch thick panels 47 inches tall by 15 wide. That’s enough to diagnose room problems. Stand some in the corners, then lay some along the base of the wall behind the...
Thoughts on extending speaker life.
Early foam surrounds broke down, but have lasted more than 10 years in my experience. Many lasted 20 years or more. Butyl surrounds don’t have the same break down issue. Accordion paper edges last a long time as well. I have customers with speaker...
Blind fold hearing test
I could. At your house.  Now that you have told me what you own.  I pretty sure I would nail it every time. Ha!  But other than that no. I’d like to see someone who could. That would be fun.
Turntable isolation for bedroom floor
Elizabeth your method works. I’m not sure why people would dismiss an easy fix. Wall mount shelves work too. And springs. Pick one that makes sense to you.
Phono preamp
Two pieces of advice here were spot on:1) Refurb the receiver. Everything should sound better. 2) Try the Schiit. 15 day money back guarantee. You can only lose some shipping cost.
2000-2500 USD budget for an integrated amplifier. Do amplifiers sound the same? :)
I’ve used several Klipsch horn designs. They sound best with tubes or quality class A solid state. If you can try one of those I’m positive it will erase the idea that amps don’t matter. And before you do that please pull those horns out and cover...
If you had $1,400 , A TTable thing
I still use my DP-62L over everything else. Hard to beat even when I’ve spent a lot more than the $800-$900 it would cost to replace it. That’s in the US anyway.
Buy a pair of ten year old $40,000 speakers for $4,000 or new ones at that price point?
Buy the used ones if they can be listened to and impress you. I build and repair speakers and see the effects of time often. 10 years isn’t even half the life expectancy of quality drivers and crossovers. So if undamaged and play well you -have a ...
Dealers and exaggerated treble
I’ve been to dealer showrooms where the room itself is a terrible place to listen. One I recently visited had a dozen systems placed around the main listening room. It was also littered with other equipment in racks and on shelves with accessories...
Helmhotz resonators for audiophile at almost no cost and without calculus...
Mahgister you have15 carafes and several jerrycans in your room now? that’s a lot of stuff stashed around your room. Have you tried to control room acoustics or resonance any other way? There are types treatments that are easier to live with.

Geoff please add more details to the box used to find resonance peaks. Is there a particular volume of box that works best at that frequency? Is it sealed airtight or just closed?
What is the best solid state amplifier you have ever heard?
Bedini 25/25 is still the best I’ve heard in any of my system variations over the years. Still have mine purchased new. I have a Bedini 100/100 amp as well. Not quite as good, but close for when I need more power. Many other amps and components ha...
