Chord Dave - Missing soundstage width The DAVE is an amazing DAC and I literally can't keep them in stock which is mind boggling for a DAC that is >$10K. I will say that when I have one in my system (I swap depending on what I am showing) the idea that the soundstage wouldn't exte...
Time to upgrade DACs One thing I am curious about....your original question around DACs. Do you need a headphone amp? Or are you just looking for a new DAC? If you just need a DAC I might have an idea.
Best small, desktop speakers, $500 or under (new or used) Check out the Scansonic HD M5 BTLs. They are 10.5" high, 50w amp built in and use a sweet sounding ribbon/planar tweeter. They were $1000 but I believe will be marked down to $500 a pair soon.
Shall I move away from Devialet ??? where to go? I have only had a brief stretch with a Devialet amp I had on trade. Had a longer stretch with a Micromega which I found quite similar in terms of sound profile. I found both deliver amazing detail and are quite neutral and will expose the flaws ...
Time to upgrade DACs The Scansonics have an 89dB SPL. At 8' from the speakers, peak output would be ~104dB, at 10' 102dB. That is plenty for music for normal to reference listening. A little light for home theater.
Shall I move away from Devialet ??? where to go? My thinking is that the Devialets are amazing amplifiers and for your described sound preference, maybe Chord's new Ultima line might be a step up depending on your power needs. Technologically, they are pretty amazing amplifiers. That being sai...
Time to upgrade DACs In a room like yours, a side firing woofer and the right tweeter can do some extraordinary things. The Scansonic MB-3.5B could be a pretty awesome speaker for you. I first listened to them in a room that is about 15' x 25' with 15' ceilings. Pl...
Bookshelf Speakers for Large Room Looked at your picture. This is going to be radically limiting. Port bungs will solve the issue of rear ported speakers pushing air out the back and bass muddiness but won't solve the problem of getting proper imaging. If you are going to spend...
Amplifier for B&W 705 S2 Marantz Reference level Integrated will be a good match like the PM 14S1 or a RUBY KI would be excellent with those. Maybe a higher power Naim integrated would be a fine choice.
Best DAC for around $2,500 or less I prefer FPGA dacs. if if you don’t need balanced connections and can deal with limited inputs I would look seriously at the Chord Hugo 2. Definitely a step up from the Qutest and you can attach the 2Go streamer. Works as home or portable.
KR Audio Kronzilla VA680i anyone ? I have not heard issues in terms of reliability on KR Amps. I also have plenty of customers who are running 15+ year old KR Tubes that still sound great. Like anything, a few people run into issues but there are relatively few problems that I am...
KR Audio Kronzilla VA680i anyone ? I have listened to them and work directly with Eunice at KR. I import KR tubes as they are the only ones left I know of that make a PX25 and the balance of their tubes are pretty great. It sound like a crazy project and will require some modific...
Why don’t tube amps sound like tubes anymore? Agreed. If you are going to go through the effort of buying a tube amp that is going to be more expensive and deliver less power than a similarly priced SS, what is the point if it sounds solid state? I read and article, probably in stereophile,...
Ported versus sealed speakers: is one type better? Depends on total speaker design and each designer takes a different approach. Wilson, Wilson Benesh and Vivid port. Magico and YG do not. One thing that is common to Magico and YG is they are both aluminum. Not sure if that has anything to do ...
stand-mount speakers for classical music The M-150 sounds neutral to a hair forward. Amazingly detailed but with a speaker that has a forward sound profile, this could get bright and painful very quickly. My Blackthorn is 1-2dB forward above 2.2khz. Sounds wonderful with a Marantz int... |
