Best 2W Speaker under 1500 I'm not sure about best, but a pair of used Thiel 1.5's might work if your 50 -70 watt tube amp is up to the impedance load. Placement in your 10 x 15 room will also be a consideration.
linelevel pre that facilitates balanced bi-amping? Sean, thanks for your reply. I'm sure your advise has merit. I am trying to help out a friend and I'm sure that by-passing the passive cross-overs in his new speakers are not an option for him.
New TacT speaker system I am hoping to hear them soon. I would really like to hear the Tact electronics with the German Physics speakers set up in the manner that Allen Perkins recommends ( listener midway and against the long wall with speakers 50% out from the long wal...
B&W 804 Nautilus help Thank you everyone for your thoughtfull advice. Sorry for the confusion but the $2500 mentioned was for pre and powered combined. This price point isn't carved in stone though. My friend is not interested in tube poweramps but does not care if the...
Digital cable v. standard interconnects Truly necessary, no. Recommended, YES.!
Which SPEAKER for the 21ST century? As impressive as the Manger appears I am still not convinced that a Walsh type driver wouldn't be a better starting point to developing a perfect driver. The manger appears to be able to radiate either horizontaly or verticaly, but not both. A Wal...
Which SPEAKER for the 21ST century? Tweekerman, I agree with every point you brought up. Lobing effects and the space required for driver integration are problematic. I still think the manger will still need supporting drivers and may not have as desirable dispersion characteristics...
Which SPEAKER for the 21ST century? I wonder if more extended versions of the drivers (Walsh,DDD) used in the OHM and German Physics speakers would be more promising? If it weren't for the space needed for driver intergration perhaps digital cross overs with the inherent steep slope...

Which SPEAKER for the 21ST century? As a good listening room does not allow for balanced distribution of sound from multi channel direct, bi or di radiating speakers. I believe that single omni-directional drivers with digital room correction will permit suround sound to actually work.
40hz ratings/speaker response Wow it's so cool when everyone offers such great insight/advise. Keep in mind that the bass lift most rooms provide is not linear. It's probably your speaker that has failed you. If it's only one channel, reverse speakers to confirm the (1) speake...
What is the future of amp technolgy? I am willing to speculate that the combination of room correction and surround sound will eventually be the dominant technolgy. A new purist audiophile will emerge, considering any unnecessary analog input as an anathema. A new democratic audiophi...
How to match ohms with amps & preamps It depends on how the digital source outputs to the amp, if it has a traditional analog volume control with op-amps or some other kind of buffering it should be the same if not better considering the fact you will have one less interconnect in the...
Has anyone had trouble with stereophile magazine? Yes, I have had trouble with stereophile in the past. When they changed ownership my subscriptions were coming months after they appeared on retail shelves ( a real disadvantage in the old days before forums like this when trying to purchase used ...
How to match ohms with amps & preamps An excellent question. We can all save ourselves from some unnecessary experimentation, expense and aggrevation if we just do the math. A simple solution is to compare the same manufactures preamp/amp specs and try not to deviate to much when mixi... |
