Levinson or Krell
IMHO the Wilsons sound more like live music with Krell. The Levinson doesn't seem to have the speed and dynamics that the Krell provides. Just my opinion. You should be able to audition both with out to much effort. At these prices, I'd listen to ...
"Search Option" suggestion for AudioGon
I think having a price search is a good idea. As far as previous threads are concerned, lets not be to harsh as some subjects need to be updated from time to time.
Some thoughts about value in high-end audio
As with most things there is ususally a point of diminshing returns. To some,(those that can afford it with little consequence, purists that are willing to sacrafice other needs/comforts, those with little self esteem who need to make an impressio...
Why get an expensive tuner?Am I missing something?
Yes it's "narrower than 20-20" but so are most analog and in practice many digital sources. Most of us don't really hear beyond 15k anyway. Very little music exists beyond 15k either. A major slice of otherwise unavailable music is better than non...
Luxman T-117 Tuner
I happen to like the T-117 a lot! Please be aware that to the best of my knowledge Luxman no longer serves the US market. Parts and repairs may be diffucult to come by.
Why get an expensive tuner?Am I missing something?
While rare, there are some good quality broadcasts available. A good tuner can avail you to a multitude of quality music you might other wise never know about. While I would love to own a really top notch tuner for the above reason, there are some...
wattage difference between SS and Tube
Smaller Thiels can usually get by with 50 watts but benefit from more. Thiels do present a rather linear but low impedance. This would be the major concern IMO. Power requirements can be crudely determined by speaker sensitivity, room size (and co...
Argent Room Lenses?
Thanks,Jahaira.
Argent Room Lenses?
I am curious about these "things". How do they work? Where do you place them? Are they limited to a certain frequency?Do they subtract sound? Do they add sound? Do they neutralize sound? Is there a way to measure a room for appropriateness? How do...
Are active speakers the best upgrade
I did it again, PUTTING THE COSSOVERS BEFORE THE AMPS SEEMS LIKE A SUPERIOR METHOD! Sorry!
What venues are best for selling used equipment?
Mwilson I fear you might be right on re: AGS. Recently I posted a sale for an item that was conservatively rated a 7. No responses. Mean while a friend purchased an item rated a 10. I'll be damned but the 10 was ever so marginally in better condit...
Are active speakers the best upgrade
I am no expert, but I can't help thinking that keeping the electronics away from the vibrations, magnetic fields and limted heat dissipation that come with most speakers might be a better idea. I do agree that putting the amps before the crossover...
Which comm. speaker mfgr. makes the best cabinet?
Well done, Zaikesman. I can't help but wonder if future omni-directional designs will be less dependent on cabinets.
Are active speakers the best upgrade
TacT might lead us into the future.
Best Inexpensive Tuner?
Denon TU-800 would be a good used recommendation especially if you live in an urban environment or where favorite stations are close to adjacent strong signals.
