Your Best Hobbies (other than Audio) My life has changes signifcantly in the past few years. When I had time for hobbies (including this one) they included: Masters Swimming and Schutzhund with Riesenschnauzers. Swimming brought me a unique joy where intense concentration could bring...
B&K ST-202 or Forte 1A? Just a note of caution. Some, not all "designers" will will spout a very democratic view of their products. They will tell you that most anything will work with most of their products so as not to lay a foundation that might suggest that their pro...
Best live album you've ever heard? Ben_campbell, my bad. Seven jewel boxes, eight discs.
What about "Pro" vs. Audiophile ????? As speakers and rooms are interactive devices the needs may differ. Some recordings are monitored with this in mind. If you listen to a lot of these recordings, it may well be a good idea to listen to some pro gear. Ironicaly, when this is the cas...
Best live album you've ever heard? Ben campbell, have you tried Miles Davis "the complete live at the plugged nickel 1965" 7 disc set. Upon my first listen it sounded a bit "studied". The next time round was a revelation of true artistry. Nicely recorded, too.
Best live album you've ever heard? My favorite is "The Concert For Bangla Desh".
B&K ST-202 or Forte 1A? P.S. the B&K M200 monos @ 200 watts per channel should be able to do handle the load.
B&K ST-202 or Forte 1A? In stock form I think you would be asking a lot from these designs. The Forte 4A which was a latter version of the 1a might be able to pull this off (most people seem to prefer it's more open extended sound as well). The Forte is only 50 watts but...
cd player with volume control - under 500 The old B&K amplifiers had a rather low impedance (22?) Ohms not an ideal candidate. I tried the same thing with an old B&K ST140, while it made sounds, I quickly discarded this approach. From there to a passive pre-amp which was better (t...
Bi Amping... worth it? Worth a try!
DIY Speakers, worth the hassles? I have never tried building my own. The commercialy made speakers that I seem to enjoy all seem to be designed and built around some pretty sophisticated tesing equipment. I don't have access to a Fast Fourier, quailty microphones, etc. I am under...
B&K ST-202 or Forte 1A? I would not recommend either amp. I don't think either amp could be truly comfortable with a 2 Ohm load in stock form. Perhaps the mods on the B&K have adressed this?
What would you upgrade next? I can only adise you from a 2 channel perspective. I would upgrade the B&K.
Return to Audio: What Products to Consider? If you have been out of the loop for a while, I think the most interesting new stuff is coming from TacT.
Cryogenics: accomplish what and work how? Tim, nice work. Thanks. |
