Would a Pass Aleph 5 be able to drive Thiel 3.5 ?
Of course your room and desired volume level are paramount in this regard. Your pre-amp out put should be considered too. Thiel recommended 50-250 watts (as rated into 8 Ohms). As they are a steady 4 Ohm load I prefer to think in terms of 100-500 ...
Have I finally lost my mind?
Ozfly, I think the digital correction inherent in CD play back and the fact that CD machines are designed to change speed in relation to the diameter of the section of the disc being read might offset these issues in ways that analog may not be ca...
Multichannel SACD, new category?
Until, we all find a way to balance all the parameters of all these channels in real listening rooms, I think the point is moot. The only practical way I know of to do this is through digital room correction. Neither SACD or DVD A permits this wit...
Have I finally lost my mind?
If it effects digital discs, I think it would effect anaolg discs (perhaps more so).
Listening Levels
I do my best, albeit crudely to keep the volume in scale to what the origianl performance was intended to be like and to what my room and system can handle. Family permitting!
40 watt tube integrated enough for vandy 2's?
Of course your room and desired listening levels will be paramount in this regard. I think the answer to your question is yes, but more power would be better. The difference between 40 and 50 watts is minimal. As a rule of thumb (not carved in sto...
Stones on SACD - Tempting?
I wonder if they have a trick up their sleeve or are they shooting themselves (SACD) in the foot. IMHO the Rolling Stones are infamous for very poor recordings (not music). Can they make a silk purse from a cows ear?
Calling BAT amp/preamp owner
I once went to a dealer who was quite enthusiastic about the BAT gear. Had whole room set up with their entire line. Each and every system had superfluous noise, especially the pre-amps. Every time I made adjustments in volume or source selection ...
Anyone else like to Listen in the Dark?
Oh yes, I believe that our minds anticipate the effect of the room on sound. With the lights out we don't have as much conflict between the recordings acoustic venue and our own listening room. Bofus is right on, the less distraction the greater t...
What type or kind of electronics ss.,tubes, sep..
At the risk of sounding fickle, Muralman1 is also right on re: TacT. Tact is not inexpensive. I still think Clueless has given you sound advise, the result of which will allow you to use the room treatments suggested by Muralman1 with more specifi...
Audiogon Hall of Fame? And the nominees are...
Nrchy, I'm somewhat embarrassed to tell you that I'm not all that clever and I was being sincere. I'm glad you enjoyed the laugh though, seems we could use more laughter around here lateley.
Has your system changed the music you listen to?
I tend to listen to more classical music with every true (not just change) upgrade.
Transformer coupled / Capacitor coupled
No reason to apologize for recommending what appears to be sound engineering practice.
What type or kind of electronics ss.,tubes, sep..
Clueless is right on.
Audiogon Hall of Fame? And the nominees are...
I think it's a good idea. Perhaps we could do it on an annual basis with the results posted at years end. Five is a lot to deal with but since it's started lets go with it. I suggest 5 point for each #1 position and descending points there after. ...
