Preamps for $300 to match with B&K st-140? Sorry, I have to disagree with the passive and AI recommendations. The B&K ST140's rather low input impedance does not make it an ideal candidate for passive or high impedance out-put preamps. I tried a couple of passives with the B&K and ...
Is there any obvious advantage for monoblocks? Cooler operation.
Adcom 545 vs. B&K st-140 While I can't comment on the newer B&K ST 140, I'm in full agreement with Infinitebaffle on the rest of his post. I'd like to add that the B&K has a rather low-input impedance that might challange most tube pre-amps that usuaully have high...

Rate these on order of importance: Marco, I'll be the first one to say that we haven't found measurment techniques that can truly identify the complete listening experience, especialy speakers. As compelling as they are, I didn't mean for my "argument" to be soley based around thos...
Inactive speakers in the room...any effect? Clueless, I can see it now, specially formulated from a rare an exotic rubber tree, cryongenicly treated and mounted on a sandwich of sorborthane, exotic wood, rare stone and kevlar over tip toes, with a remote controlled blue light that can be pr...

Inactive speakers in the room...any effect? Eldartford, perhaps I was not clear in my original response, But I am comfortable in suggesting that the first 3 criterion were fullfilled ( if not quite a dozen times, quite close, further more some the listeners had the opportunity to do this on...
Rate these on order of importance: Nrchy, of course I can't disagree. From the postion of the listener, it doesn't matter where the corruption comes from. I just think it's more likely that the most corruption will come from the speaker/room. How many components other than speakers...
Capacitors: Who is Right? What ages them faster? What does this mean with regard to those amps that use few large value caps as opposed to those amps that use more smaller value caps?
Rate these on order of importance: Nrchy, we've been down this path before. While speakers can't improve the signal it recieves (digital correction excluded) they are the most likely culprit to intertwine with a room in such a way to distort it more than any other resonably perform...
Suggested speakers to take the place of Dunlavy I think the speakers that sound most like Dunlavy's in order from top to bottom are: Thiel, Meadowlark and Vandersteen. I have not heard the Green Moutains, but, would guess that they too share some of the same qualities.
Stereophile confirms new gear is getting worse.... I agree that at these prices, things shouldn't slip through the cracks and not perform as advertised. On the other hand, it seems very obvious that Pass has their customer policy/ relations deptartment in order. Heck, s**t happens, as long as Pass...
Rate these on order of importance: Eldartford, you don't agree that Jmcgrogan2 and Subaruguru agree? Ha! I suppose your right, I'm wrong by default. Other forums beg to agree to disagree. Here on Audiogon, we disagree to agree. All in all very disagreeable. Ha! |
