Speaker db rating?
Please forgive me for getting a bit off topic, but, with all due respect to JohnK; it doesn't make the case for hi-eff horns for me.
Amp recommendation please
Krell KSA 150. Just a thought, your room could handle bigger Thiels.
Vandersteen 2ce and McCormack floor models...
The Vandy's need space, the size of your room should work in your favor. On the other hand, though they are somehwhat warm and soft sounding, they do have wide dispersion. Room treatments like rugs and drapes can help a lot.

Dollar for dollar, one would be hard pressed to find a better value than a McCormack/Vandy setup. Do make sure your room can accomodate the Vandersteens.

I'll give a third nod to Macrojack, especially if you have a standard 8' ceiling.
Large room fix
If you can't treat the room, perhaps something like the Tact gear would work for you.
How am I frying all my amps? Oscillating? Help
Just a guess here, but I suspect it might be the Cary pre that's causing the problem. If you could find another pre, you might work towards confirming it or ruling it out. I'd think about sending the Cary back to the manufacturer for some testing.
Great systems in butt-ugly rooms
Get out of my trailer and go back to Oprah.
Who likes LATIN JAZZ?
A short while ago I saw the Arturo O'Farrill band, Wow, their daring, full bore, take no prisoners, risk taking performance was so refreshing in these days of the often typical homoginized, unimaginitive, rehashed, predictable crap. Even classic t...

I love it! I have to admit, I do get a turned off by the, for lack of a better description; call and response shouting chants of band members that can't really sing. Perhaps it's something beyond my cultural sensibilites?
SNEAK PEEK: Lansche 4.1 Loudspeaker
I think we walking a very fine line here. The further up the disclaimer is the more comfortable I am with this type of thread. Perhaps the disclaimer should actually be in the "question box". On the other hand, I wouldn't be surprised if the moder...

Ha! At least the disclaimer came in as the third paragraph rather than the 20th(?) paragraph.
Do I really want the musicians in my room?
What your describing, is in my experience, more often than not, due to the recording rather than the gear. That is not to say that when playing the same recording in the same room with different gear, one doesn't hear the same differences. I aim t...
what power amplifier are really punchy
Krell. I humbly suggest you choose your speakers first.
midrange forwardness
I think Germanboxers nailed it. Even with speakers that that have a moderate steady impedances, classic tube amps tend to be more forward in the midrange and classic ss amps tend to be withdrawn in the midrange. To be fair, most modern quality amp...
