Wilson Sophia II vs. Thiel CS3.7 I was shocked to see the price jump on the Thiel 3.7's. I think I understand the reasons for the Thiel's cabinets, but whatever the improvements are, do they justify the costs? As I said, I haven't heard them yet, but, they are still a passive rad...
Wilson Sophia II vs. Thiel CS3.7 Though they both might be considered traditional dynamic loudspeakers, the designers seem to have very different ideas and priorities. I haven't heard the 3.7's yet. I'm not sure if I've heard the II version of the Sophia's yet. Though I might be ...
'they blew'em off the stage' Ten Years After opening for Peter Frampton. My memory is a little less clear on this, you know the times were different then, but I seem to recall King Crimson opening for Golden Earing.I wasn't there, but, it's been reported that Jimmy Hendrix ope...
Do you have a secret "guilty pleasure" recording? I honestly do like Micheal Jackson's "Thriller". As far as I'm concerned it, for what it is; well produced comercial pop, hits the nail dead on. Guilty as charged.
Motif MC 7 or MC 8 Usually a dual mono piece will image better.
What is the 'Chales Shaw' of loudspeakers? This is Audiogon, good condition used examples of $2200 new speakers can be had for considerably less. BTW, in the big scheme of things, many here might find $2200 for new speakers cheap.
Motif MC 7 or MC 8 I'm guessing that if your running a pair of mono amps, going with the dual mono MC 7 might make more sense. I'm also guessing that if your running into a regular stereo amp, perhaps the MC 8's lower cost might make sense. Just guessing though.
What is the 'Chales Shaw' of loudspeakers? Usblues offers the best advise. With that said, if you have the room, I'll second Krisjan's suggestion of the Vandersteen 2's.
HDCD playback Most players that decode HDCD have an HDCD logo on the faceplate and will have a light that indicates the HDCD decoding process. There have been reports of the HDCD light behaving strangely. Some discs may have some tracks endcoded with HDCD and o...
Turntable setup Long Island or NYC ? Bob at Innovative Audio in Brooklyn had a talent w/ turntables. He is a long time model hobyist, seems working with small delicate items is a talent for him. Heck of a nice, honest guy as well.
HDCD playback HDCD's are compatible with any standard CD player. Of course you won't get the advantages of the HDCD encoding without the HDCD decoder. HDCD discs can be found intermixed with standard CD's. Of course the Reference Recordings web site has a nice ...
How am I frying all my amps? Oscillating? Help Now that might be possible. I had the leg of an external Alpha-Core RC network snap under pressure from a speaker binding post.
How am I frying all my amps? Oscillating? Help If there were indeed appropriate zobels in place, I can't imagine why the Adcom and Classe' amps had trouble with the Alpha-Core Goertz speaker cables.
Classic Audio Reproductions I can respect that many find these speakers to be the cat's meow. I've only heard them in the less than ideal show circumstances. My friends and I, as well as some others exiting the demo rooms, were very dissapointed. I still think they have all ...
Best amp for Vandersteen Quattro? I've heard them sound quite beautiful with Audio Research amps. I'd imagine any of the more open and clear tube amps like, Atmasphere, Manley and VTL etc., might work nicely. I usually prefer ss but in this case, tubes might be the ticket. If you ... |
