Girlfriend's mom threw my Cardas out with trash
She's a mom, ergo she is therefore entitled to invoke the; "It's all for the best, if you keep playing with such things, you'll probably trip over them and poke your eyes out.", anytime she pleases.
In Room Frequency Response Measurements
I listen in the near field, prefer flat, but rather a roll-off than a lift.
The best tweeter design
That High Emotion unit sure looks interesting. I'd love to give those a listen. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but, aren't compression drivers limited in power handling?
Little Know Speaker Builders
I always wanted to hear Kinetic Audio speakers. They always had such good specs in the old Audio Annual Buyers Guides. Never had the opportunity.
Single driver point source speakers vs. the world?
Mapman, I've heard some older Tannoys, and didn't care for them. If I get the chance, I'll give them another listen.
Single driver point source speakers vs. the world?
Love the concept, don't love most of the execution examples, especially when one considers price and value.
Preamp with Aleph 5 and Thiels
Please forgive me for working around your initial question, but, as good as the Aleph is, I can't help but wonder if it's the right choice for your Thiels.
Threshold Stasis 2...Worth a rebuild???
Jon's (who was a tech at the original Threshold) work straddles the line between maintenance and modded...:^)Of all the many comments I've come across regarding Jon, I've only heard of one complaint and I don't know that individual personally. I'v...
Threshold Stasis 2...Worth a rebuild???
I'm a fan of Jon's work, but $1300 seems like a lot of money to invest in that old an amp. Perhaps you could find a later Threshold that wouldn't need quite as much attention and expense. Though it might cost a bit more, I suspect you'll get more ...
solid state vs tubes
Magfan, You might appreciate this advise:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpTyG60zvcI&feature=related
solid state vs tubes
Minorl, all good points, but, I do agree with Atmasphere on the point that in many instances one technology will work better than the other, and visa versa. In such instances, one or the other can not be swapped in and out and be expected to work ...
solid state vs tubes
LOL, Atmasphere, I've got hand it to you, you do know what you like. The Ridley runs hot and hardly increases power much at all into lower impedances. Just like yours.
solid state vs tubes
Atmasphere, silly me, I forgot about the Macs. I was referring to the Pass M2.
solid state vs tubes
Atmasphere, auto-formers aren't a new concept. The only ss amplifier I know of that includes an auto-former appears to do so in an effort to adapt to an otherwise speaker mismatch. If auto-formers were of such benefit and without deficits, why wou...
solid state vs tubes
Mapman, One of the advantages of ss amplification is it's inherently low output impedance, low speaker impedance speaker loads are almost never a concern. There are some, that believe that the best results occur when impedance's are more closely m...
