Pass vs McCormack? Oops, my first response was referring to the latest Pass amps, the earlier Aleph and some of the Pass First Watt amps are quite different, some being quite recessed IMHO.
Pass vs McCormack? IMHO, and to keep it brief, the biggest difference is that the McCormack amps tend to be forward of neutral, the Pass amps are incredibly neutral. Depending(!) on your speakers, budget and/or listening preferences either can be an excellent choice.
Sonic Frontiers Line 3 pcX upgrade Oh, I just noticed how long ago this thread started. Never mind.
Sonic Frontiers Line 3 pcX upgrade I'm not sure about the specifics, but the hourly labor charge Chris charges doesn't seem unreasonable, and I would imagine that due Chris's business he would be able to get parts at favorable prices. That no one knows these products as well as him...
Tube vs SS vs Digital I wouldn't assume your dealer is lying, and if I was buying without trying, I would take Al's advice very seriously.
Pass Aleph 5 vs. Pass XA 30.5 / 60.5 I might be alone on this, but I didn't much care for the Alephs, finding them lacking in dynamics. The Pass X series amps were a huge improvement to me. YMMV.

Tube vs SS vs Digital ^^^LOL!
Warm Replacement for Adcom GFA 545 II I would have still waited to upgrade cables, until after everything else was decided upon.
going Pass Labs, do I need "Class A " ? Peterayer, no that's not what I meant. I was answering; "Yes, dollar for dollar" to the question: "French_fries, Are you saying the XA.5 have less control at the frequency extremes than X.5 amps?"
going Pass Labs, do I need "Class A " ? Peterayer, I hope you and French_fries don't mind, but IMHO dollar for dollar: yes. Though there are other considerations too.
Warm Replacement for Adcom GFA 545 II I think changing amps to compliment cables is altogether backwards.
amp for b&w 804 "s" with htm4 "s" 200 watts.... http://app.audiogon.com/listings/classe-audio-twenty-five
Efficient Full Range Speakers I'm not sure I agree with Atmasphere's definition of "Efficient Full Range Speakers". Perhaps that description would be better applied to: "Efficient Full Range Single Driver Speakers", which I have yet to be convinced actually exists for practica... |
