Too many cans with no storage!
A can?? What is a can?? Hilarious.I’ve seen some beautiful wooden stands online in the past. Can’t remember any models that would handle that many pair, though. They were laminated and heavy enough to be used as an exterior door header.I’m surpris...
Would a Technics SL-1200 MK2 be an upgrade from a Denon DP-31L?
I have a 1200 mk2 and like it a lot. It is stock with an AT120 cartridge. I use the Technics overhang gauge and never have an issue with anything, it just plays records, no fiddling. Mine me was used but very clean. Personally, I would not buy a u...
Hostility from manufacturers
I'm glad to hear the success stories, thanks for sharing. Smart business leaders understand the value of service after the sale and the blessing of a good reputation.Being customer focused pays big time in my experience. Ironically, companies that...
Hype, Hyperbole and high price!
I have a serious question. First of all I respect higher education although I don't have any.If engineering expertise can be applied in a factual manner to audio, why does a company not dominate as a result? Seriously, I often read what doesn't wo...
What's the most overrated or overpriced piece of equipment you own, have owned or come by?
Back when had some vintage gear, I had Pioneer HPM100’s and JBL4312’s. I walked on my lips to get them and found I had a sensitivity to a resonance in their midrange area. Both found happy homes, but I wanted to like them!I was also lucky enough t...
klipschorns, they kick ass for sure
I've never seen any gear in the forums that can't be picked apart, improved with different drivers, and/or bettered. Speakers or otherwise. Name any piece of gear and I'll bet you somebody will tell you cheaper models and more expensive models tha...
Jumpers
Fwiw, some speaker manufacturers have given opinions in the past regarding wiring preferences. You might contact Tannoy or a knowledgable distributor or retailer. Or post a question for other owners of your speaker model. They may be able give a qu...
Digital to 5.1 analog converter?
Hi, unfortunately the preamp does not have a bypass option. I do have an older Adcom pre pro - I may give it a chance and see how it sounds in 2 channel. Thanks for the help, gary
Digital to 5.1 analog converter?
Thanks for the heads up. If I don't find a pretty inexpensive fix, I may just continue to use 2 channel for tv- I have a solid center image thankfully. Regards, gary
looking for a stand mount speaker to match a s/s int amp.
No.I have Silverline Minuets and like them a lot. May be worth a listen if you have an opportunity.A good point was brought up about changing to a tube amp, especially if the amp only generates a few watts. That move may limit your speaker options...
Subwoofer
I like the sound both ways. Curiously, I blend the sub in and it sounds great. When I remove the sub, I like it...i would make a poor reviewer!
Do you have a secret "guilty pleasure" recording?
The Monkees Greatest Hits, Alice Cooper Goes to Hell, The Donnas, Mel Torme, Dean, Sammy and Frank, Goose Creek Symphony...I don't feel guilty, but they aren't what I'd call crowd pleasers to my friends.
Audio Art cable Power 1 Classic or Pangea AC-9
I have a couple of these Pangea cords for my tube amps. They dictate your gear placement basically. I like them but they're not very flexible if you need to do much twisting/turning.You may consider getting longer lengths if going with the Pangea ...
Life without a remote
In 1980, my Navy roommate (uncle Chuck) and I were approached by a salesman putting the hard sell on us to buy a remote controlled tv.Chuck acted very annoyed, stared the guy down and said in a stern voice 'sir, the day I am too dang lazy to tell ...
Buying Without Audition
Same here, I'm in a 'no audio' zone. I generally buy used gear, some local and some not. All I've really gained from buying local is saving freight and making sure everything worked- the actual judgement happened at my house in my system. This gro...
