Swapping atlantis biwires for signal ultra wires? My recommendation is this. With all the money that you will have saved by:(1) returning the Sonance amp to the store;(2) leaving the captive power cord on the NAD cdp alone; and(3) sticking with the Atlantic biwires;buy one of the Musical Fidelity ...
Bryston amps Bridged3B's or 4B? If you search the Vandersteen FAQ page you'll find quite a lot on bi-amping. RV explains that when an amp is only connected to the tweeter/mid terminal, it "sees" the caps protecting the speakers but not the resistive load provided by the woofer. ...
Which tube cd player do you like The DAC is where it's at? I'm not so sure, IMHO. I see a lot of convergence in the leading brands (Crystal, Wolfson, etc.), and actually I think it's the all-too-often-forgotten analog electronics--particularly the output stage--that could do with...
Bryston amps Bridged3B's or 4B? Are your speakers bi-wireable?If so, you could go the vertical bi-amping route, without having to bridge (and lose power into lower ohms as Bob R. suggests).Drive the tweeters or tweeter/mids with the 3B, and get another 3B or even better a 4B for...
Most achingly-beautiful music Forgot to mention:John Dowland, Lacrimae, for consort of viols. The Fretwork version is pretty good.

Newbie amp help......why? Kevin--Above and beyond the issue of sheer volume (and Pubul57 is right), I have to say that Sonance is not a brand name that comes up very often on A'gon as incarnating the kind of sonic qualities that most high-enders are looking for. I would ha...
Bryston amps Bridged3B's or 4B? I recommend you post the same question over on the Bryston Owners circle on AudioCircle. There's a lot of expert Bryston knowledge there--and probably someone who's tried just what you're asking about.
Audience Au-24 vs. Empirical Design Cable Review They're probably unshielded. ED on its website touts the benefits of unshielded; A. Taffel in the Golden Ear Award blurb hymns the sonic joys of unshielded, etc. etc. Seems to be the way to go. I presume you're not picking up any extraneous noises...
Audience Au-24 vs. Empirical Design Cable Review Dodgealum--Did you use shielded or unshielded intereconnects? Both seem to be available, with the sonic preference going to the unshielded.

Primare CD31 with 1704 chip Have you considered the Bryston BCD-1? IMHO it's the leader in the price range you specified.I listened to the CD31 and thought it very good. Very listenable over the long term. Similar feelings about the Naim CD5x. But--admittedly in another syst...
Newbie amp help......why? How did the issue of whether you might need an amp come up? Did someone else tell you this? Or did you come up with it on your own?PSB Stratus Golds are decent speakers, and some other A-goner with more experience of them can probably tell you how...
Newbie amp help......why? Does your receiver have "Pre-amp out" jacks on the back? If so, you could continue using the tuner and pre-amp sections of the receiver, and hook up a better quality power amp to drive the speakers (bypassing the amplifier section in the receiver)...
Reality Cables made of? Yes, AudioCircle has a number of threads on DIY THHN speaker cables. But what about interconnects? Based on the rather blurry photos on the website, that's what it looks like the Reality ICs might be made of. |
