My Thoughts re: Dealers Posting on Audiogon Picture this. An OP posts stating his dissatisfaction with a certain model of a certain brand of loudspeaker. A dealer who sells that brand jumps in and, instead of recommending he upgrade three models higher up the line or change to a (more exp...
speaker/stand, couple or isolate? Now what about open topped stands, the kind of stand that, for instance, Harbeths tend to be put on, where there are only four points of contact to begin with, at the corners? Those stands are made of either metal or wood, so there's another vari...
My Thoughts re: Dealers Posting on Audiogon OK, so you're coming at this topic as an ex-dealer yourself??
My Thoughts re: Dealers Posting on Audiogon I agree with 2psyop and rbach. There's a huge difference between the two contributing dealers from New Jersey, and part of it also is a question of tone and attitude. 2psyop's adjectives are right on the money.
Classical Music for Aficionados Next up: Europa Galante (Fabio Biondi), "Invenzione e stravaganze", with pieces by Farina, Uccellini, Legrenzi, Mazzaferrata, Vitali, Falconieri, Marini and Rossi.Europa Galante is one of my favorite ensembles specializing in this period, and ther...
Classical Music for Aficionados For another rocking piece (different century) try Andreas Staier (my favorite period keyboard player) performing Antonio Soler's Fandango.
VALENTYNE SUITE COLOSSEUM 21st July 21st 1969 Some of the members of Colosseum went on directly into Greenslade, so there's a measure of continuity. There are four basic albums: Greenslade [title], Bedside manners are extra, Spyglass Guest [something of a hit], and Time and tide.
VALENTYNE SUITE COLOSSEUM 21st July 21st 1969 On a related topic, do you have any of the Greenslade LPs: Greenslade, Bedside manners are extra, Spyglass guest, and Time and tide?
Classical Music for Aficionados Next up: the incomparable Rachel Podger in the collection Perla Barocca. This has a SACD layer if your player can handle it. I'm kind of obsessed with Bertali's Chiacona, don't know how many times I've listened to it over the years.
How I tamed digital glare. Digital storage is not the issue. It's turning the digital data into music. The "A" in DAC. Here timing is a big issue--how accurately, from a timing point of view, the converter is running.
Amp recommendation for Vandersteen Treo CT I heard the Ayre AX-7e driving the Vienna Acoustics Liszt without breaking a sweat. Then they put on the AX-5 (not Twenty) and of course it was better. Stacked Belles Aria preamp and stereo amp are no larger than a Luxman integrated.
Classical Music for Aficionados Embarking on a new plan to listen through my collection of Stylus Phantasticus recordings. First up was Romanesca's appropriately entitled Phantasticus. Love how deep the theorbo goes, and Andrew Manze is one of my favorite period violinists. An...
Caveat about the Cable Company return policy Yup. I bought a component from them last year with a very clearly and explicitly return policy attached to it, and when I went to return it well within the return policy they squirmed and squirmed trying to get out of it but eventually had to acc...
How I tamed digital glare. @effer The data is being played back over time.Do all computers run the same program in the same amount of time? Come to that, does the same computer always run it identically? It doesn't matter exactly when a page loads.Does does matter exactly ...
VALENTYNE SUITE COLOSSEUM 21st July 21st 1969 Valentyne is great. The other classic albums are Those who are about to die, salute you (also 1969) and Daughter of Time (1970). To which we can add Colosseum Love (1971). That's the heart of the original output. |
