Need help in trying to trace cause of distortion Many years ago, during the period when I had gone over to the dark side (Muse Model 150 monoblocks, Thiel 3.8s), there was a particular passage in one particular Martinu piano CD (Chandos) that excited some kind of distortion in one channel. "Luc...
How does this make sense, any sense? Any sense at all?? Stereophile has consistently exaggerated wildly the acoustic properties of the LS50. This is just one manifestation of a particularly regrettable and much larger trend.
A secondary system to enjoy. My secondary system is composed entirely of hand-me-downs from the primary. That way you get more use out of a component you've acquired, and slow down the merry-go-around of acquisition.
Vivaldi, played badly, is the worst classical music on earth Fabio Biondi's recording with Europa Galante is a breaktakingly exciting recording. I love it. You also sample Rachel Podger's recent version--she's very good too.

upgrade Dynaudio Special 40 to Kef Reference 1 You need to drag your amp to some stores and LISTEN. Only then can you tell whether there is truly and improvement or not, and whether that improvement is worth it in monetary terms. Everything else is scratching a mirage-like itch.
2 way, which are the best designs? Alta Audio Celeste. At a different price point than the Fritz (which is very good). No mention of Watkins?
Remove rack or console from between your speakers Yes, GIK floor-standers angled each side of the rack.
Spatial Audio open baffle speakers, who has them? Worthwhile change from Maggies? There's a fairly extensive discussion of spikes, floor isolation, etc. for Spatial speakers over on Audio Circle. Also discussion of placement in room.
Speakers that can reveal orchestral instruments' positions Yes, it depends much more on the quality of the recording than on the capabilities of the speaker (though that obviously too is a factor). I have an extensive collection of classical CDs, and through the same system the soundstaging sounds anythi...
Classical Music for Aficionados Finishing up my complete Chopin survey on a high note (no pun intended). The complete (2 CDs) Nocturnes, with Garrick Ohlsson. I'm a sucker for his wonderful rubato. To me, this is how Chopin should sound.
New Omega E Mat from Perfect Path Technologies Corollary of the placebo effect: any change=better.
If I have good local shops available, should I restrict my purchasing? What if there aren't any local stores?
Classical Music for Aficionados Listening to Helene Grimaud performing Chopin Piano Sonata 2. The piano recording sounds very good to me, as does the interpretation.
