anyone ever build their own T.T.?
Thanks, for the detailed report Robert. I especially enjoyed the humorous parts. You did a nice job.
Time coherence - how important and what speakers?
Cdc, I'd listen and decide. There are numerous people on here that have the Carolina Audio speakers that use Jordan drivers and like them. A one-way speaker has much to recommend it. Nothing is perfect.I quote from Roy's comments on AA,"I require ...
ZYX Fuji vs. Lyra Helicon
With many moving coil cartridges set at 47k ohms, the high frequencies get accented a little with a rising frequency response. Some people like this, and some people don't. Personally, I don't, and load my cartridges at or near the manufacturer's ...
Is vinyl dead ?
Sean, the 45 adapter for the Linn is a pulley to adjust the speed to 45rpm, not the little hole adapter to put in the record. They are high on pricing, but not THAT bad.
Decca London Cartridge?
The Decca cartridges are still available, and they have been improved to track at about 1.8 grams. They still use the "Decca Principle" of using no cantilever and have a very revealing sound. Some people consider these cartridges to be a little "t...

Ridgestreetaudio, that looks like a nice job that you did with your TT. Congratulations.
What's your LP-12 on? The sidewalk?
The best stand for an LP12 is the Sound Organisation TT stand that was originally made for the Linn LP12. It is very low cost, and was only about $150 when they were new. I don't know if SO still makes them or not. The LP12 should be on a low heig...
Is vinyl dead ?
Wlusk, I really don't need to add anything to your statements. You've really said it all. For those interested in the mass market and convenience, there's the CD. For that small niche interested in the best sound quality, like audiophiles, there's...
Good Semi-Automatic Turntable
Yep. No problem. Goes right on.
Is vinyl dead ?
The reports of analog's death have been circulating since the introduction of the CD about 20 years ago. Amazing how it is still kicking the butt of the CD after 20 years, isn't it?
Good Semi-Automatic Turntable
An older Harmon Kardon T-60 would be a good choice. But there are several auto-lifting mechanisms available that can be added to almost any manual turntable for about $40 brand new. The Expressimo Audio "Lifter" is one of them.It is user installed ...
What makes different amps produce different sound?
As a basic concept, different technologies and designs and parts, lead to different sonic qualities. While they all reproduce the basic musical signal, they do so with different levels of accuracy, colorations, and transparency, and also that elus...
Where do you draw the line???
Nate, now let's not jump to any conclusions about me probably not liking your system. Just because I am very opinionated about what I want in my system, doesn't mean that I can't enjoy what others have put together. Our electronics and speaker sys...
Where do you draw the line???
Ok, I'll throw something into the mix here. I think that system complexity has alot to do with the performance/cost equation. A very complex system, with a lot of power, and will typically cost more. I know this is not ALWAYS the case, but typical...
Rega 25 or VPI Scout
How about also taking a look at the Nottingham Horizon or the Origin Live Aurora? Those are 2 other nice tables in your price range.
