How much does rock-solid speed stability cost? I think you need to look at something with a non-cogging DC motor system. And also with a "non-hunting" speed controller. As you have noticed, the ear is much more sensitve to flutter variations, than to the much slower wow variations. AC synchrono...
HELP: Subwoofer for SET setup You should match the speed and sound of your sub to your main speakers. Use an electronic crossover and set it at the correct point and slope for integrating with the main speakers. Make sure that the sub will go as deep in the bass as you want to...
What would it take to balance a stereo power amp ? I agree completely with Bob Bundus. It's easy, cheap, and done all the time in pro-gear setups. They even have adapter plugs which have the balancing transformers built right into them, and have the XLR on one end and the RCA on the other.
Opinions on why this system is uninvolving Bryan, the SME products have a reputation for being detailed, but overly dry and analytical. You should try something a little more musical to make your comparisons.
Anti-skating problem I would recommend re-checking your cartridge alignment. Make sure it is perfect according to the alignment protractor. If you cannot get it perfect, then you have to re-measure and re-set the spindle to pivot distance correctly.
Opinions on why this system is uninvolving Bwhite, you need to try some analog that is a little higher up the scale. Perhaps its time to re-discover that Teres project lurking in your garage. I, as you know, have spent 10 years with an LP12, and compared it to many Oracles, and am quite aw...
Mat Material............... Richardmr, I'd recommend that you contact Audiogon member 4yanx about this. He has quite a bit of listening experience with Nottinghams and variations and tweaks. I think he could give a more accurate recommendation than I could. Some people like t...
Should I upgrade my SME 3009 III tonearm? Hey, if you like it, then use it.I do think that you could get a significant upgrade for not alot of money. Like $200 for a Rega RB250.Do what suits you best.
RB 900 tweaking David, I don't know of any other generalities regarding this. I'd go on a case-by-case basis. I think that the long unsupported thin piece that is usually the shape of a finger-lift is likely to be exciteable by resonance in many cases.
RB 900 tweaking David, the Rega, and the OL arms(at least the Silver that I have) have microphonic finger-lifts. I have shrunk about a 1/2" length of heat-shrink tubing onto the finger-lift of my OL Silver. This is a known tweak for years on the Rega arms.
Mat Material............... A record mat can perform several functions. Most of these functions are to improve the performance of a platter with inherent design flaws. If the platter is properly designed(which many aren't), then a mat should not be used or needed. If there i...
Copies Better Than Originals? One might be tempted to ask, "If a copy was somehow better than the original, then where did the copier get the knowledge/information to add anything, without that that information being part of the original in the first place?" If in fact, the or...
Omega Speakers ,High efficiency but how's the sound I haven't heard the Omega speakers, but single-drivers do very well with SET amps. I use Lowthers, and am very happy with the sound. I have heard of a couple Audiogon members that have tried the Omega speakers and liked them.Single drivers are lik...
Could This Be Your Next Power Conditioner? Uncle Jeff, doing solar power is something that a person has to want to do. There are some high up-front costs and maximum usage limits that make you have to want it. I don't do it for cost effectiveness, I do it for independence. I like having co...
RB 900 tweaking Adjust the tracking force to 3 grams, and this disables the tracking force spring. Then adjust the position of the counterweight to set your desired tracking force. Anti-skate should be set by ear anyway, but on a Rega arm there will be a small te... |
