So you're an audiophile - are you also a musician? Yes, I play Piano/Keyboards, and some guitar. I have also done quite a bit of home recording studio work, and have made some master tapes for demo recordings, for various bands trying to get recording contracts. Several did even get the contracts,...
My wife finally got it I know I'll get alot of flak for this, but I am not a fan of the Clearaudio cartridge line. I think the Dynavector beats it hands down. I generally prefer the Japanese MC cartridge sound.
My wife finally got it Slipknot, If you are looking for a good high-output MC for a reasonable sum, go for a Dynavector 10x4 MK II. It retails about $450, and sometimes you can get them for less. It is a really good high-output MC for the money. It will definitely stomp...
Classical music for Rockers Hi Nate. Wagner and R.Strauss have alot of gusto, that could get you interested. Wagner's "Ring of the Niebelung" is a piece that you have probably heard parts of before, like the helicopter scene in "Apocalypse Now!". R. Strauss's "Also Sprach Zar...
My wife finally got it Slipknot, if you want to look at 2 other TTs that are in the same league as the Teres, and are actually "spin-offs" of the Teres Project, look at the Redpoint Audio TTs, and the Progressive Engineering TT. They use the same bearing and motor as th...
Line conditioner for turntable, I believe that both Walker and VPI make them available. Also, Origin Live has a DC motor kit that can be used in many different turntables. My TT is battery powered with a DC motor, and I found it gives a very good sound.
PS: Typical McGowan Sound? -- HCA-2 & Classic 250 What's the big deal? If you want one, buy it. If you don't then don't. This is a big argument over nothing.
My wife finally got it Your wife has an "ear". That was an interesting story. I'd venture a guess that many other wives, and indeed, audiophiles would say the same thing, if they heard some good vinyl on a good playback deck. The key statements in your story were playin...
1st song you remember??? The 1st radio song I heard was "She Loves You", by the Beatles.
What system components would you buy if........... Okay, I guess it's my turn to divulge my alternate choices. If I didn't have the Teres, I'd buy either aRedpoint Audio TestaRossa, or aProgressive Engineering turntable.(Cost no object, would be a Walker Proscenium)If I couldn't have a OL Silver ar...
What's next after my 300B Rega Turntable Teres Model 255 Signature in Cocobolo. Origin Live Encounter tonearm, Shelter 501 MkII cartridge. That gives you the whole package for just under $5k. I speculate that you would have a very difficult time beating that for $10k, or even more.
Why Linear Tracking never took off? The Revox TT is a pretty good one for their "genre" of TT, which is direct drive, and mediocre linear tracking. If you wanted a TT of this type, you should be aware that the direct drive types will impart a motor vibration into the platter(whether...

Burn in time...Reality or something else??? There have been some vigorous discussions about this on some other threads previously posted on this subject. You may want to refer to those to get some impressions. It seems there are 2 camps in this. Those who feel it is definitely an equipment c...
VPI Uprgade?? You have it right. TT, then arm, then cartridge. Where you go with the TT upgrade is up to you, but that is where you will get your best improvement in sound. |
