New system advice?
Bob, the OL-1 arm(modded RB250) is available from any Origin Live dealer. I got my OL Silver from Galen Carol Audio in Texas, but there are a couple of OL dealers that advertise on this website, in the Audiogon classifieds under "Analog". The Heav...
MC vs. MM question
Phasecorrect, this is a post copied from my 10/30 post in the archives from a thread on exactly this subject.Allright, I guess it's technical time. There are several types of cartridges, with MM(moving magnet), MC(moving coil) leading the pack. So...
Which phono section: Linn Linto or Bryston 1.5 ?
What about the Benz-Lukaschek phono section? It was made for the high end Benz cartridges, and costs about the same as what you are asking about.

The used route is usually the one I take, when I can. In the case of this TT, I seriously doubt that you will find one used. Anybody that has one, knows what they've got and they have no intention of letting it get away from them. As far as perfor...
Static Problem
Wear rubber soled shoes, and don't scuff your feet when you walk over to the TT. If the static is building up while playing, you may need to check your ground from the chassis near the bearing. This should drain the static buildup while playing. I...
Sonic Differences With 45 SE assistance needed
Gs5556, no I don't have experience with the Cunningham 2A3. I'm sure it's a good tube, because I know the Cunningham 45 is highly regarded. It's very hard to have experience with every tube and amp out there, so of course my opinion is subjective....

First, let me say that a 2A3 is an awesome tube. It offers alot, whether you compare it to anything, and it has some more power capability than a 45. Speakers are easier to drive to a higher level with a 2A3. It is beautiful in delicacy and midran...

How are you liking your X5-MC?
New system advice?
Well, this is a tough call, because you have to split the $4k between a phono rig and an amp. They are both important, and you have some good quality other stuff to match up to. If I had to make this call myself, and had 4 ohm 92db speakers, I'd l...
Transitioning: back to solid state....
I'm guessing you liked the tube amp better.
best upgrade for 'standard' LP12
Phil, I think all your other stuff is just fine.I have got very good results from the Heavyweight counterweight, and recommend it highly. I really did not expect alot from just a counterweight change, but it did alot more than I thought. RB300 is ...
Those pesky gouges in vinyl.
It can accelerate wear on the stylus, if you are continually playing scratched and dirty records. Huge pops that cause a large dynamic peak could be damaging to the speakers if you have the volume turned up real high when it happens. That's about it.
best upgrade for 'standard' LP12
The "midbass ripeness" is a typical characteristic of the Linn table.Aside from the stand, which you have addressed, there is not too much that can be done without dis-assembly or the table or arm. Even re-doing the adjustment of the suspension re...
Tube Amps, Some Basics
Email A'gon member "Clueless" for some material on this subject. He has written a guide to tube amp design, and FAQ about tube amps. I have reviewed this material, and found it quite informative.
Does anyone know of a non-digital sounding cd?
I like the 12" black discs that you play with a stylus.:^)Very non-digital sounding!
