Giving up on Power Race, and going SET?
Hi guys. Thanks for the responses. Yes, I do get quite carried away at certain times. However, my two or three posts are like a little wind in a hurricane of thoughts to the contrary. I don't expect to really get anywhere with this. The whole mark...
Bent Audio TVC with Krell Ksa-250
Pretty is as pretty does. Glad you like it. I knew it would be good in an application like that.
Any Wavestream Kinetics owners out there?
It's a Scott Frankland design. I don't know if he is even doing them anymore. It's hard to go wrong with any of Frankland's stuff. He's good.
Giving up on Power Race, and going SET?
Alex, your point about single drivers and their covering a wide range, relates to potentially higher intermodulation distortion. This is another thing that has some "questioned" characteristics. A diaphragm microphone recieves all the frequencies ...
Giving up on Power Race, and going SET?
I think it's funny to say that SET enthusiasts make up things like I stated above, when it is plain that others make up terms like "euphonic distortion", when there is no such thing as "euphonic distortion". Euphonic distortion is a term made up b...
$4500 amp beat out the Tenor OTL in the latest TAS
I think the only reason HP picked the Hurricane as the best amp he ever heard, is because he's never heard my amp. :^)
What's the best isolation system?
Due to airborne vibration, there is no such thing as isolation. Direct floor coupling is the only thing that can work. If your component is truly isolated, then it will absorb all airborne vibrations, and have no load path to dissipate them. They ...
Suggestions for a tube preamp
The MFA Magus, and orginal Audible Illusions Modulus were both designed by Bruce Moore. There are similarities in their designs. I like the Audible Illusions preamps too.
Giving up on Power Race, and going SET?
I can pull off 105db peaks with my 2 watts, on my Lowther EX3 Voigt Pipes. I can also get right down to 40Hz without the weaknesses that are normally associated with Lowthers, due to my cabinet mods. Yes, they have limitations in the lowest octave...
SET - Limitations from Amp, Speaker Match, Both?
I agree with Herman's statement above that the detail and dynamics are as good as it gets. The lowest octave of bass is the weak point. But everything else is so good, and there is such a small amount of lower octave used in most music, that you r...

The GX stands for Gyger Line Contact stylus.
Suggestions for a tube preamp
Yes, the MFA products can be serviced and upgraded by one of the original designers, Bruce Moore, through RB Audio in California. I bought my preamp from him and the upgrades also.
$4500 amp beat out the Tenor OTL in the latest TAS
I've heard some other people giving very good reports of the Hurricane amp. It seems this is a good one from the folks at ASL.I can't comment on the comparison with the Tenors. But, nobody rides on the top of the heap forever. It was bound to happen.
Giving up on Power Race, and going SET?
I use a SET rig, and I think it sounds as good or better than any high power rig I've heard. You have to get the right speakers for it. I prefer a direct radiator sound, and draw the line at front-loaded horns. My preference at this time is the Lo...
Suggestions for a tube preamp
I have the MFA Magus, and I think it is awesome for the money. Really nice phono stage, and plenty of gain. You might not need phono now, but you might want it later, and this phono stage is a good one. It's like getting the great phono stage for ...
