Conrad Johnson Repair Issues
Thank you Pereza for your detailed thoughtful update regarding this matter, many of us were concerned regarding the outcome. It seems the guy at the top made this right but one might wonder why this situation had to get to that level to come to a ...
Conrad Johnson Repair Issues
What is going on with this service manager? It starts and ends with him and he CLEARLY is not doing the right thing and handling this situation in any way a professional manner, it is Jeff, right?. Outrageous indeed!
Acoustic Zen, Reference 3A and ATC
I personally find the decapos to be tonally faithful based on my 3 year experience with this design, YMMV. You have to listen to speakers in a given system to gain any salt as to their intrinsic value to YOU. The DECAPOS are in my extensive experi...
Your first component that was "special"
"My most special component that I never owned" AND most influential and profound. The only way to answer your query, the ARC SP-10 Mk2 pre-amplifier is the "it" for me.
If I'm looking for "Tube Sound", why would I put a Tube Pre in front of a SS amp?
Very nicely stated and great advice cdk84.
The most transparent speaker cable
Definitely the Omega Micro and Nordost should be on the list if it's transparency you're looking for.
If I'm looking for "Tube Sound", why would I put a Tube Pre in front of a SS amp?
"However, if you really want to treat yourself go with tubes all the way. That way you get the additional benefit of reduced higher ordered harmonic distortion, which to the ear sounds like brighter and harsher, and is the thing with which tra...
If I'm looking for "Tube Sound", why would I put a Tube Pre in front of a SS amp?
Agree with Eric's explanation, electrical compatibility between the amplifier and speaker IS most important as is the output impedance of the preamp being ideally suited to the amplifier. Beyond those two very important parameters much of the rest...
When will there be decent classical music recordings?
I saw an quite interesting musical presentation several years back at Inhotim Museum and Botanical Gardens in Minas Gerais Brazil. It consisted of 40 B&W monitor speakers setting up an oval with the listener in the middle. of this quite large ...
"Vintage" high end gear vs new and upgrade path?
I agree with Spencer's comments. They are both thoughtful and certainly worth exploring based on my personal experiences as well.
"Vintage" high end gear vs new and upgrade path?
From reading your question and revealing your impressions it pretty much mirrors my experiences and biases for the most part. I believe your analog front end could certainly be improved upon but at what price and are you willing to pay it? I am of...
Which Referance 3A Dulcets Be / MM Decapo Be or Episode Be
Hi KelvinrI too am using a REL Strata III with the Decapos. I've generally not been a fan of subwoofers but I must say the flexibility and phase adjustments of the REL have  changed my position. They meld beautifully with the Decapos. The Decapos ...
Which Referance 3A Dulcets Be / MM Decapo Be or Episode Be
I would think the Episodes would be a bit too large for your space. I've heard them before in a similar space and the question then might be,  "Do the Decapos or Dulcets offer satisfactory performance including bass in this size room?" My answer i...
Beyond Ayre Pass and Rowland
"Beyond" seems a bit over the top when under consideration are the likes of Pass Labs Gryphon and Ypsilon.  Symphonic Line would certainly be in the mix as well. Not a well known brand but their Kraftwerk line is definitely something to consider...
***Advice Needed***Choosing Between Mini & Midi Monitors
I would second the Decapos, easy load for a 25 watt tube amp in your room and when properly set up will do music and particularly bass bigger than their size, 8" woofer/mid driver vs 6" and smaller on comparable speakers with excellent control. No...
