Why pay so much for super high end? "In high end audio, as much as I love it, I do find a lot of similarities to religion. "Amen to that Brother Man. They are both more than similar in this respect, whatever rings true, pretty simple in trying to understand the absolute unknowable, ...

Best Record You Have Ever heard All the Sheffield Lab direct to disc recordings produced by Doug Sax are just excellent and among the very best recordings ever made but the music can leave you wanting. Certainly not this one and a few others including the superb Thelma Houston a...
When and how did you, if at all, realize vinyl is better? JollytinkerDon’t know if you read it but if you can get a copy of the latest Stereophile you might want to read the first paragraph of Analog Corner by Michael Fremer to see just how heated this debate between analog and digital can get. To answer...
It is a good idea to purchase a vintage tube pre-amp. I think it certainly can be a good decision if you purchase for the right price taking into account tube replacement and replacing/upgrading parts as noted by lowrider. BTW you mention the SP15, do you require a phono stage?
When and how did you, if at all, realize vinyl is better? Rockadanny, I for one would emphatically disagree with that premise! My system over the past 15 years was changed, upgraded, focused on digital sound including multiple turnover of digital components to try to achieve a less fatiguing presentation ...
When and how did you, if at all, realize vinyl is better? "If they put caffeine in the vinyl I might come back to the fold:) "Dave I somehow sense, based on your comments on this site over the years, that you seem in a pertetual conundrum over many things audio. When and how did you, if at all, realize vinyl is better? Effischer well written indeed and it mirrors my observations. I also feel as Atmasphere notes, there is generally an inherent brightness in cd playback that I don’t hear with vinyl. Vinyl doesn’t always sound better than CD playback, but it genera...
Preamps: Rogue Audio RP-1 vs. Quicksilver Audio Line Stage Pre - Sonic Differences "The Rogue sounds more modern. "Which means more neutral more natural or more real? Anyone own or heard of PrimaLuna? I’m sure the Primaluma line is excellent based on what I have read but have never listened to. If you are looking at value, dependability and performance you might also consider Music Reference, Jolida (mentioned by Wolf), Rogue and Quicksilver as...
Best female vocal recording on CD? Beg to differ with you Czarivey, I don't consider Patricia a boring audiophile artist. She has some quite formidable jazz arrangements that put her into the class of unique IMHO. She's pretty good, try her live in France album and enjoy, if this i...
Best female vocal recording on CD? I would also highly recommend the late Shirley Horn as well as Melody Gardot. The Burn Sisters recommendation made me think of the Roaches an Irish sister trio from NJ. Great harmonies with some really quirky lyrics.
Piano out of Tune? Well if it's electric it's tuned to sound flat, I'm with you.
Tubeyist sounding Pre-amp? I DO agree with everything you said bpoletti as far as it went. What I have personally found however is that some components characterized as neutral/accurate are really, to my ears, not that at all over extended listening. When fatigue comes into...
Tubeyist sounding Pre-amp? It's funny to me reading all the above descriptions of tube sound running the full gamut, particularly liked your's bpoletti, now THAT is what some tube haters really mean when they refer to tubey sound. To others it means a degree of warmth or bo... |
