Your favorite Sheherazade LP ? First off I am a big fan of Rimsky Korsakov and particularly his mid and far eastern tone poems and orchestral works, he really made his mark with me from a very young age. I have copies of the Reiner CSO on both Chesky and Acoustic Sounds vinyl a...
If NOS pre or power tubes became unavailable altogether, what new tubes would you buy? Al you are not alone concerning the hum problem using the Sophia 6sn7 tube and thank you for bringing it up, I should have mentioned my experiences as well. It also happened to me several months after purchase of my first pair. Lowrider this was a...
If NOS pre or power tubes became unavailable altogether, what new tubes would you buy? and Raul I'm not at all upset with your choices, believe me. The point is that the thread is just not about what you're continuously bringing up, it is about new tubes to replace NOS tubes, that was my main point and that of others but you can't ...
If NOS pre or power tubes became unavailable altogether, what new tubes would you buy? Lowrider so far as lacking warmth, yes this may be true compared to the NOS Sylvanias, Ken Rads and a wonderful pair of National Union that I had in my Supratek years back that to my ears at least had the most enjoyable midrange of them all. That...
If NOS pre or power tubes became unavailable altogether, what new tubes would you buy? Raul, you're making too much of your opinion in this thread. You may not know Bo but check out his threads, you two remind me much of each other which is to say taking a bulldozer approach in offering your prejudices regarding the reproduction of ...
If NOS pre or power tubes became unavailable altogether, what new tubes would you buy? So far as new tubes, I really like the Sophia Electric 6SN7 tubes which I'm sure are Chinese sourced. Only problem is longevity but they are both linear and extended, more preferable to me than any of the NOS types of this tube, pricey however con...
It is a good idea to purchase a vintage tube pre-amp. Yes Ralph, the caps are at the output driving a pair of Quicksilver amps with an input impedance of 100K. I also have used with a pair of vintage MC60's and a Berning zotl amp to equally good effect.
What's your favorite album cover art ? Me too avanti, me too.
If NOS pre or power tubes became unavailable altogether, what new tubes would you buy? Thanks Raul for the heads-up, I always figured that there was something missing that I couldn’t quite put my finger on, you have illuminated it so well in what it takes to realize music in a complete FULL sense outside of the live experience, just...
Very Bad purchase from upscale audio Acoustic Zen Adagio "I've dealt with Kevin a few times and he's always had a condescending attitude. "I called him once regarding a specific tube I was looking for. Nothing bad but he seemed a bit blase, that was my impression and I decided I didn't want to pursue...
It is a good idea to purchase a vintage tube pre-amp. Ralph I have no doubt that having the correct value caps would be ideal however I’m not even sure that Vcap makes the cutf capacitors of the value required, 20uF X 4. In any case the cost would be prohibitive if they do which I don’t see on their ...
It is a good idea to purchase a vintage tube pre-amp. The thing that always reminds me how subjective this hobby is is the variety of choices we have. I too have owned numerous preamplifiers and heard many times more in my set-up and outside. I am currently enamoured with a Conrad Johnson PV9a that h...
Have you ever tried a pair of speakers and said this Is the last thing I will ever need. Thank you Spencer, I’ll take you up on that offer next time I'm in the area. My roots are there, plenty of family, born in Chester. I agree with you on your two points in that the Quads I mentioned are both one trick ponies and the Soundlabs are ...
Have you ever tried a pair of speakers and said this Is the last thing I will ever need. You know something Jayctoy, there is something about monitors that is really appealing, at least to me. They can really draw you in, probably the simplicity of design without the heroic efforts that can frequently distract. Often I sense that audi...
Have you ever tried a pair of speakers and said this Is the last thing I will ever need. Well there sure have been speakers that I would probably like more than what I have but to be honest I am very satisfied with my Ref 3a Decapo BEs with REL sub. After almost 4 years and plenty of tweeking and fine tuning they are sounding quite "r... |
