Best match electrostats for Jadis JA-30
I think 30WPC push-pull tube amps are the perfect match for the Quad '57s. Haven't heard the Jadis, but certainly the McIntosh MC-225 and the Berning EA-30 are great.
McIntosh transistor tuners....any good ones?
I have an MR-74 and it sounds real good, used. They're all gorgeous, of course, and just take that dial knob for a spin, literally. You know when you get there.
In Memory of Henry Kloss
Yes, I sold Advents as well in the early '70s. I think one of our most popular systems was a pair of Larger Advents (vinyl finish), Sansui 2000(A) or 4000 receiver, depending on your budget, and a Dual turntable, maybe a CS-1209, and make that a S...
Electrostats Shootout at 4000 Corral
Speaking of jokes, and I think this opening post IS one, to judge Magneplanar with a NAD amp make me laugh.BTW, it's AsCent and I don't think it's legendary just yet. It's also DynAstat. And, don't come to Houston for Innersound or SoundLab 'cause...
Martin Logan CLS 11Z speakers + which power amp?
I should have been more help. Try this forum and use the search feature typing in CLS, CLSII, or CLSiiz. You will find amplifier talk there.http://www.AudioAsylum.com/forums/MUG/bbs.html
Martin Logan CLS 11Z speakers + which power amp?
I assume you will be adding a sub-woofer. Lots of classical music I like has low bass. It will interesting to see what amps are used/recommended for CLSIIZ. They are tricky.
100w tube vs ss for Mag 3.6s
Would you mind being more specific about the amps you tried that the W-5 killed with the Mag 3.6s? I'm interested.
100w tube vs ss for Mag 3.6s
I use 120wpc OTLs in a room abut half your size and it's JUST enough, high 90's. I also have sub-woofers but I run the 3.6s full-range. If 100wpc tube power isn't enough for you, I wonder if 200wpc solid state is going to go that much louder clean...
looking for jazz?
Try the group Niacin (Billy Sheehan, bass, John Novello, Hammond B3, Dennis Chambers, drums. Also, Wayne Horvitz and Zony Mash.
Best Recordings
Well, Ben, is there any good reason to get snotty with jlx?I think he is correct about one thing, many of today's pop artists' producers do record with the end delivery system in mind..that would be the boom box and the car with the 4 30" woofers....
Planar in a small room
I guess it might be helpful if you could give the dimensions of this "small room".
Most beautiful violin recording you have heard
Henryk Szeryng playing the Beethoven Concerto and Romances with the Concertgebouw, Bernard Haitink, conducting. It's on Phillips CD, probably budget priced now, analog original from 1970-73.
Improving bass response
I agree totally with Audiokinesis. If you really want to keep your mini-monitors, then more patience and experimentation with the sub-woofer thing is what is called for.
Seek suggestions for mid-classic organ & orchestra
Organ concerti: Poulenc, Copland, a movement or so in Holst's The Planets, Samuel Barber has a short, but plaster cracking piece, don't remember the name (do some research). Hope this helps.
need decent cheap pre amp to drive
Excellent suggestion (former owner). A friend also drives his McIntosh MC225/Quad ESL system with a GFP 565. Sounds great!
