is it the connector or the wire ?
While my experience is primarily with power cables, I'd have to go along with JD. Also, JD, I have to say that Furutech really has something special with their Rhodium connectors. You described their traits exactly, whether it's the RCA connectors...
Audioquest King Cobra or Similar Cables
Feel free to ignore Allan Blissett's post. The cable denier's posts are rampant, but your ears should be trusted.
Opinions on lower priced digital that can compete
Tonyptony,I found it to be a bit too 'dry', and the overall presentation to be 'smaller' and 'farther away', if that makes any sense. Of course, I could say the same about the Discovery digi-cable, to a lesser degree. It has alot to do with what y...
Is there an optimal interconnect lenght?
From an electrical standpoint, shorter is better, but keep in mind that many cable manufacturers voice their cables to sound best in the most common length, which is 1 meter. Of course, if you have a particular model in mind, perhaps the dealer wo...
Opinions on lower priced digital that can compete
I've tried all of those except the Zu, and I'd have to go with the Stereovox as well. The Discovery Digi-cable can sound very impressive in some systems as well.
Why do digital cables sound different?
Warjarrett,Yes, there are technical explanations as to why a longer digital cable sounds 'better', unfortunately, there are also very good explanations as to why shorter sounds 'better'. Frankly, I think it's pretty clear from my listening tests t...
Oyaide outlets
Considering the original question, I'd also like to add that Furutech will be introducing new outlets very soon as well, so it'll be interesting to hear what they have to offer. I've found their FI-25 AC connectors to be the best out there, so I'm...
Oyaide outlets
I tried one of the new Oyaide SWO-XX Ultimo outlets from Cryoparts, and it was too warm in the middle. It made female voices sound very 'husky', and the upper treble was pretty 'tizzy'. Don't know how it sounds uncryo'd.
Longer Power Cords Sound better?
Zaikesman,The adjectives I used, though fairly broad and basic, were chosen because that's my experience with the vast majority of PC's. So if, as you stated, there was a reduced brightness in the longer Van Den Hul cord, how would one explain tha...
Applications for Shunyata Hydra ?
I'll second Lak's comments,Given the cost of investing in high-end conditioners, I'd make sure your AC lines are up to snuff first. The bonus of doing so is that you won't have to guess whether or not any power conditioners you try are actually ca...
Longer Power Cords Sound better?
Zaikesman,Did the longer version exhibit less glare, a warmer midrange, and a fuller bass? Or any of those attributes?
Longer Power Cords Sound better?
Ehider,The difficult part of defining "better" PC performance is knowing what is causing the change in sonics from cord to cord. You can't say with certainty that a cable sounds better because it offers 'filtering' of some sort, unless you've comp...
Longer Power Cords Sound better?
Well, that settles it; the source of all audio knowledge has spoken. :)
cable dielectric cause of artificial sound
Sean, Excellent post, but I think you need to be very carefull when addressing the EMI/RFI issue. Some cables that reduce EMI/RFI issues also dull the musical signal. I think it's important to focus on clarity and dynamics when listening for EMI/R...
cable dielectric cause of artificial sound
Audioholics? Since they don't believe that cables make a difference, they should just shut up about it and let us 'delusional' audiophiles enjoy our hobby.
