Why does most new music suck? Todd, if you had read my previous posts on this thread you'd know that I embrace some current artists and the concept of new music in general.I do think there was more good stuff proportionally in the 50's, 60's and 70's than since. There was also...
Bands where U say Drums are very physical and I am amazed that Ginger Baker was able to do the Cream reunion or that Charley Watts continues to work for the Stones at such an advanced age.Bruford, IMO, is much more than "also a great drummer."Have you heard his wor...
Best Live Album Ever... There are some excellent suggestions--I'd add B.B. King live at the Regal. Those BBC "live" recordings, while usually great, are often really studio recordings, sometimes with overdubs. The Dire Straits and perhaps Led Zeppelin tapes are exceptions...
Why does most new music suck? Toddnkaya wrote:There is plenty of music being produced every year that is as good or even better than the Beatles ,Stones,Who, etc... IMHO Wow--what color is the sky on your world?
Bands where U say And what about the BEATLES?
Bands where U say Yes, the Hendrix bands mattered--Mitch Mitchell was (at least) one of the greatest rock drummers ever and his work with JH (listen to the live stuff) is very good. Probably the best trio was with Billy Cox on bass.
Am I totally nuts or just a bit off? Stereo allows you to fully utilize the fact that you have two ears on opposite sides of your head. They take in slightly different information. In that difference lies the beauty of stereo, when properly mixed.Walk around for a day with an eyepatc...
Whats on your turntable tonight? I find the Budapest SQ to have an almost indescribable quality--not the best technically, perhaps, but so alive and unpredictable. There's a feeling that anything can and will happen. I think they're great. I especially like their Rasumovxky #3, l...
Music Sung with Passion What sounds like passion to one may sound like straining to another.I think there are a lot of deliberately or naturally passionless-sounding deliveries on record. Probably a lot of alternative/punk/or goth stuff if you think about it.Then there's...
Does anyone like country I like 50's and 60's country, not too much beyond that point. The new alternative stuff is okay sometimes, the commercial variety has been hopeless for decades IMO. Garth Brooks, a very talented man, represents the low point for me I guess.
guitar solos where less is more Beatles solos, whether George, Paul (Taxman, Drive My Car, Another Girl) or John, tend to be just the right length and tasty as can be.
Remember the year and first vynil you ever bought? First LP Beach Boys, All Summer Long, maybe '64. Not sure about first single (45).Does "tee shirts, cut-off's and a pair of thongs" mean the same thing now as it did then?
Guitar's...what do the audionuts play? Santa Cruz 000. Dreads: Ed Claxton, Matt Needham. Classicals: Richard Fletcher 1973, Francisco Navarro Garcia 2005. Epiphone Olympic (batwing head) solid body electric 1964. Tokai strat, 1979 or '80. Steels: Sho-Bud 10 3X1 one-off, Remington Steel...
worse entertainer or performer of all time?? Hard to say, but--I saw the McCoys in the 60's and couldn't stand them. Then in the 70's I couldn't stand Rick Derringer (their guitarist) as a solo act. So there must be something there.I was surprised to see Walter "Wolfman" Washington on this l...
