Miss ya Jerry Garcia - it hasn't been the same
I'm not familiar with the group's version of that tune (I do know the Nash solo version) but JG's work on "Teach Your Children" is classic stuff. I appreciate the steel playing he did for New Riders, Starship, and the first Crosby LP.
Favorite lp of all time
I probably play A Hard Day's Night the most, but my favorite could still be Pet Sounds. Tough call for me.
LOUSY SOUND AT LIVE CONCERTS
Opening acts usually don't sound as good as the headliner. I've long assumed that they basically are not allowed to have stellar sound so as not to compete with the main attraction.
LOUSY SOUND AT LIVE CONCERTS
At one outdoors concert (Los Lobos in Austin, TX) some years back my wife and I got up to leave because the sound was so bad (and we love that band). When we had made it 2/3 of the way back we noticed that the sound had improved considerably from ...
Why does most new music suck?
That's really good. I also liked his "Some of Shelley's Blues" which Linda Rondstadt covered. And "Her Name was Joann." The guy could write a tune, that's for certain.
Brian Wilson/Jeff Beck
Shubert, yeah, the Beach Boys, like the Stones, had great opening acts.I saw Chad & Jeremy, Lovin' Spoonful, Buffalo Springfield, Strawberry Alarm Clock, Buckinghams and Casinos open for them (three different shows).

But, as you said, you were in the sweet spot--what about the other thousands who were not?
LOUSY SOUND AT LIVE CONCERTS
Pink Floyd and the Grateful Dead have long (since early 70's) been the exception regarding quality of live sound. Those two bands set the standard for what is possible in a large venue.
Brian Wilson/Jeff Beck
Jeff Beck has worked with vocalists such as Stevie Wonder ("Talking Book") and always had a singer in his early bands (notably, Rod Stewart in the original Jeff Beck Group). He should have no problem jamming with Brian.
Is it just me?
It's just you, in a sense--but we all have the same experience. It's just us, a subjective thing.
Brian Wilson/Jeff Beck
I'd pay to see that show (Brian and Jeff)--but I probably wouldn't pay as much as they're asking. Ticket prices have gone through the roof.
LOUSY SOUND AT LIVE CONCERTS
A lot of sound men blew out their ears years ago. That, and they first work on getting the drums as loud as possible and then do the same with the bass. There's no room left to stack the mid-to-high-range instruments at the top, resulting in a dist...
Where Coming Back
Looks to me that it's more like "big buck audio companies are desperately trying to lasso the younger market."
Why does most new music suck?
With home recording available on the cheap and with the media options we have today, the big labels are less important than before. Everyone has a chance to have their music heard. So the labels' influence over what we hear is on the wane.
Guitar's...what do the audionuts play?
Rja, those sound like three fine instruments. Olson does impeccable work and Collings has amazingly high consistency throughout its range of instruments.I did not mention my Passernig Deluxe A mando earlier. He's a Collings "ex" and another fine t...
