Sloppy but Famous Contest On guitar there's a difference between primarily plectrum style linear/chordal alternation such as McLaughlin would play versus the fingerstyle counterpoint of Kottke or John Williams. As difficult as what McLaughlin does is to do (at his level) t...
Sloppy but Famous Contest I saw Leo in the 70's, 80's, 90's and 00's. Never a problem, though he's lost a step, perhaps. That said, a friend/student whose opinion I respect told me he saw a Leo show that was lacking in execution. So maybe he's an old guy who has good days a...
Greatest Composers of All Time Schubert, I'm curious to know if you're "into" string quartets very much...
Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks exit ABB When I saw Derek with The ABB (10 or 12 years ago, maybe?) I thought he had the Duane A. slide style down cold and I thought he fit like a glove. Each of those guys has his own band happening and neither is an original member. I'm sure there are ma...
What does "voiced" mean to you? It's a carryover term from the construction of violins, guitars, etc.
Can audiohile be done on the porch I have a swimming pool and last summer we had a system set up.After killing or injuring several old receivers/amps and probably doing in a set of good speakers I am going to be more careful this year. Outdoor speakers and electronics in the shade....
Lp labels that are cool, nostalgic? I liked the Capitol Records multi-colored circle. Not much too it but it was cool. And it looks great spinning on the TT.
Bach Unaccompanied Violin Sonatas-Johanna Martzy And, Schubert, you may know he kept it going nearly till the end. I saw him play at about age 78 and his Chaconne was to die for. His last performance (in his 80's) is documented on CD and DVD and it's very close to his prime stuff. What a guy.
Linda Ronstadt can't sing anymore. I love the earlier, more countrified stuff (post-Stone Ponies, pre-stardom). What an amazing voice!
Whats on your turntable tonight? Not to be a downer, but lately I've been finally losing my taste for a lot of the psychedlic era stuff, and the title track for that Chambers Bros. LP is a prime example.Night before last I listened to "The World is on Fire" by the Strawberry Alar...
Need to hide cables Yeah, Schubert--you go, dude!!!Wish I could listen that much--maybe someday...?Good luck in your search for the cable solution.
Bach Unaccompanied Violin Sonatas-Johanna Martzy Chayro, there are so very many recordings of this work (Bach unacc. vln.) that it's mind-boggling to open up a discussion of which are the best ones. That said, I believe the two Heinrich Szeryng recordings are very highly regarded as far as "old-...
Seeking Ten Years After song Wasn't it to symbolize 10 years after the start of rock and roll? Or perhaps the Buddy Holly et. al. crash?
Wishing everyone a "Merry Christmas" 1) I've seen too many threads on too many forums degenerate when religion or politics come up2) It has nothing whatsoever to do with Miscellaneous AudioIt is a glorious time of year with the heightened sense of goodwill and the opportunity to step...
Wishing everyone a "Merry Christmas" I prefer we keep politics and religion to ourselves here. Just my two cents' worth.Of course, audiophilia is something of a religion in itself... |
