What brand is most recognized by non-audiophiles?
I have a hard time believing more non-audiophiles recognize McIntosh than Bose.
Noticed the Patriot Act's effects on PayPal?
jafant, scammers have figured a way to manipulate cashier's checks.  Better to go with personal check and wait till it clears.
Led Zeppelin in Hi-rez
I think you can only squeeze so much good sound out of those recordings.  I don't thing it's about mastering or transferring or even mixing as much as it is the original tracks.
Should we use ridiculously priced cables to listen to Rap?
gshepardbuster, that sounds as credible as a lot of other tweaks.  I've got speaker stands filled with lead shot and sand.  And, yes, i can hear a difference.  Still...
Most unusual/mesmerizing female voice.
I find Kat Edmunson's voice particularly intriguing.  Very old school jazz sounding, but she uses contemporary arrangements and I like the combination.  But I'd like the voice regardless.
Fed up with people making noise at classical shows
I heard a story the other day about Gustav Mahler attending the premiere of Schoenberg's first string quartet.  Some people hissed the new music and when Mahler admonished one of the hissers he was told, "it's okay, I also hiss your symphonies!"

The Sun Sessions and the 50's Masters box are well worth having.  Some of the stuff from the 60's is good, but it's scattered around different collections.  The 60's Masters, for instance, does not have the movie music or his gospel stuff.  A chea...

Bose used to have 30-minute infomercials on the tube--what other brand has had that kind of visibility?
Dan Hicks has passed away.
Boy, Dan Hicks was something special.  Saw him with a Hot Licks Reunion in the 90's and with a different group of sidemen years later.  So much talent and so very funny--maybe the funniest frontman I've ever seen.  Adios, Dan--thanks for all the g...
I think I've Just Seen Absolute Proof That Audiophiles Are Insanely Gullible
moto_man, what is the '83 DSOTM Holy Grail actually called?  I'd like to find more info about it.

Does anyone have any of the old vinyl on the Pig label?  I have (somewhere) one Dead concert on colored vinyl from the Pigpen days--pretty decent sound, as I recall.  There was at least one Pig LP with the Airplane live as well--I think it may hav...
What do you miss about old school hip hop music and why?
calvinj, at first I was wishing you had listed fewer tracks but now I'm glad you went beyond three. I've listened to the first five. Didn't care for the first one much at all.  Second one (if I have this right) had an interesting backing but it so...

Many thanks to fourwnds and rbbert for that info.

I think there's a reason that sets such as Reckoning and Dead Set are on the "big, important" label and some of the soundboard stuff is available with less fanfare.  But there are some great moments on the soundboard tapes.  I was cruising through...
