The Beach Boys
This guy Brian Wilson went from scoring a local hit with Surfin' in 1962 to cranking out Pet Sounds four years later.  How?Pet Sounds had four hit singles on it--Wouldn't it be Nice, Sloop John B., God Only Knows and Caroline, No. Another tune, an...
Your picks of mediocre or lousy vocals with great musicians!
ps--I absolutely love Levon's voice, whether singing, acting or just speaking in conversation.  I'm from a small town in Southeast Texas and it doesn't get any twangier.  I'm a hick from the sticks myself so I recognize another when I see one.  It...

Personally, I enjoy the singing of many/most of the perps cited.  It's that unusual quality that makes the song more charming.  Another example is the Band--Rick Danko and Richard Manuel had quirky voices which I like, but I understand why they ar...
Did you hear Adele at the Grammy's?
She was definitely having some problems with high notes on the chorus.  Could be a case of bad monitors, I don't know.  She's much better on other live things I've seen on youtube so I wouldn't judge from this.  Neither the song nor the voice is c...
The great Soupy Sales died
Soupy's sons, Hunt and Tony Fox Sales, played with Todd Rundgren, Iggy Pop and Tin Machine.  Drums and bass, respectively.
If you could only own 7 Jazz/blues albums. What would they be?
If we're including fusion then scratch Jim Hall live and add Mahavishnu Orchestra, The Inner Mounting Flame.  No contest there.  Sorry, Jim!
2016: a new year for music....
bdp24, I can't imagine having two such encounters with Brian Wilson.  Man, that is so sad.  I've heard him in interviews where he seemed somewhat comfortable, somewhat lucid. And, no, I never heard Paul Skelton unless he happened to be with Cornell...
Did you hear Adele at the Grammy's?
Is there a link to a youtube video of the performance in question?

bd24, it was in Austin. I don’t think I ever went out to hear her live so I can’t tell you what sort of backing she used back then. I didn’t really know who she was, I was just looking for work that involved a guitar rather than a hammer or shovel...
Where R U?????
Austin, TX.  I'm probably here at least until I hit the Lotto.
Kanye West - Grammy comment, re Beck
This is rich:  now Kanye, saying he's 53 million dollars in debt, thinks Mark Zuckerberg should invest 1 billion in Kanye's work.  He also says that not only is he the greatest living artist but that he is the greatest artist ever.  Perhaps he has...
Just how great is Elvis Costello
I like that he does so many different things.  I especially like the tunes he wrote with McCartney--strongly reminiscent of early Beatles yet with their own style and flavor.  You can find them on youtube if nowhere else.

bdp24, I mentioned it because I know for sure she was auditioning guitarists in the mid-70's.  This I know because I was one of the ones who flunked the audition.  The upside was that her manager borrowed my Mac 2300, my mics and my PA speakers fo...

bdp24, FWIW, Gurf Morlix started playing with Lucinda in '85.  I know she was playing in Austin in '75 or, at the latest, '76.
