Can we finally put Reel to Reel out of its misery? Put it to rest people. In the days when tape and vinyl ruled the roost, the record companies would send a production/distribution master tape to Yugoslavia, South Africa, Mexico or wherever, so that records could be pressed for the local market. In due course, they sent...
Can we finally put Reel to Reel out of its misery? Put it to rest people. Glupson,The links are to my scans of the tape labels. The Mary Chain is the original Jugoton distribution master, sent to the former Yugoslavia. As I know Alan McGee, Jim & William Reid well, they have signed my master. The George Michael is a...
Can we finally put Reel to Reel out of its misery? Put it to rest people. OK, here’s on for the trolls. Who would prefer to listen to a Nak cassette deck, Elcaset, DAT or other medium instead of some of my distribution master tapes on a 15 IPS Studio R2R?https://i.vgy.me/FY946m.jpg https://i.vgy.me/hWJJn1.jpg
What's a real good arm for a Decca Cartridge? The modern London cartridges made by John Wright have much better quality control than the original Decca Special Products output (which was indeed a bit of a lottery).I have had Decca for 40 years now, and they will track most records. No they wo...
Can we finally put Reel to Reel out of its misery? Put it to rest people. @vinny55 There are lots of professional R2R machines with 15 IPS. The thong about professional machines is that they are built like tanks and calibration and line up is easy to do; after all a decent tape tech would line up the machine every day i...
Can we finally put Reel to Reel out of its misery? Put it to rest people. Nakamichi made some very fine cassette decks. I have a Nak Dragon rebuilt by Alex Nikitin with a full set of ANT 4066 mods. But seriously this is nowhere as good as 15IPS tape on a proper studio machine. If you can source a production or distribut...
Dolby Deterioration Dolby SR or Spectral Recording was Dolby’s piece de resistance for analogue tape/film recording. It is still sold by Dolby as part of their Dolby Analog suiteReviewhttps://rapmag.com/a/39-90/mar90/152-test-drive-dolby-sr-model-363-sr-a?showall=1Sc...
Dolby Deterioration Dolby SR is IMO terrific. I use a pair off Dolby 363 units with Cat 300 SR/A cards for my R2R machines. You can get >90 dB S?N ratio with 1/4 inch tape at 15 IPS and Dolby SR. SR sounds really clean too - I'm a fan.
Reel to reel - I just down-loaded 4 of the 15 IPS reels that I had recorded to my hard-drive. They really sound good on play back, and I don’t have to get up and put another reel on.It also saves wear on your repro head, as well as the rest of the transport.B...
Reel to reel 2-track 1/2" tape at 15 inches is amazing. But be forewarned- you won't want to listen to 1/4" tape after that...1/2" 2-channel is a common mastering format. Atmasphere is quite right. I only have a handful of 1./2 inch 2 track 30 IPS masters -st...
Replacing Maxon motor in a Teres Verus I started the recent thread - sadly I never got a reply from Chris. I tried email and calling the phone.
How often do you have to service your Studer or Otari deck ? Home not pro environment. Yes, the 1/2 inch Studer A820 sounds fantastic. The "sleeper" is the Sony APR5003.Without a doubt, the high end Studers (A820, A812, A810 and A80) had the very best transports with servo controlled precision guidance. Also up with the Studers are ...
How often do you have to service your Studer or Otari deck ? Home not pro environment. I have 5 studio machines at home, all 2 track - Studer A820 1/2 inch - rest 1/4 inch Studer A807/II, Otari MTR12, & 2 x Sony APR 5000 series machines. The A820 is just coming back from a repair - blown caps on the AC suppression and motor suppl...

Decca London Super Gold Compatibility Question Classic match for the Decca was something like Hadcock 228 unipivot. I've used Decca since 1978 on a Hadcock with silicone damping - Maroo, Garrott Brothers Gold and a John Wright rebuilt C4E. |
