Preamp suggestions-upgrading from C-J PV10A Add the Blue Circle BC21 to your list. They don't come up often, but used are about $700. If you can stretch, go for a BC21.1. Only down side is that the BC21 tubes (6sn7) can get pricey, but on the other hand it only uses 2. Good luck!
Sorry - a couple more newbie analog questions Slate1 - good idea about the Dylan lp. I'm thinking that if the cleaning doesn't help I'll either post a question here on A'gon or even maybe just go out and buy another one for comparison.Shasta - thanks. I'll have to check out the Fremer article...
Sorry - a couple more newbie analog questions Twl - a lot of my records (so far) are used classical $1 "specials" I see in my local Manhattan record shops so you are likely right about the software issue although several of my new rereleased Dylan albums also distort on the high harmonica stu...
Sorry - a couple more newbie analog questions Thanks everyone. Actually I do have a rubbery mat, it's a Herbie's mat so maybe I should turn it off everytime. I was also concerned if turning the motor on and off every album side would be taxing it.As for the distortion it doesn't happen on all...
Question for all of you Glenn Gould fans ... Hi Pragmatist - we ARE fortunate to have his recordings warts and all. The humming doesn't bother me in the least. I guess the thing that bothers me the most is that often within a CD, certain pieces or movements of pieces are clearly either playe...
Question for all of you Glenn Gould fans ... Thanks Aida. I will definitely check that one out.
Dealing with transformer hum Photon46 is right on the mark. I have a Belles 150a hotrod which also had an intermitant transformer hum which I eventually tracked down to a humidifier on the other side of my apartment. Took me forever to isolate this. Before I figured this out ...
Question about BC21 6sn7 tubes Thanks to all for your suggestions.I guess what I was really trying to ask is that since the various 6sn7 tube types are different electrically can they be interchanged freely in a BC21. Based on the above posts from BC21 owners it seems so.I am l...
Are my speakers supposed to do this? Ykm,No offense taken! No need to apologize. I am just not clear on what you mean by power amp "motor boating" and "marginally stable". Can you elaborate? What part of the amp's design is deficient which would lead to it being "unstable." I'm not a...
Are my speakers supposed to do this? Ykm - My speakers are middle of the road in terms of driving them (88db). They are basic 2 way monitors, nothing exotic. I've used different pres in my system and never had problems. I am convinced that the issue is with the pre, but I will be sen...
Are my speakers supposed to do this? Just to update the situation - the pre was sent back and tested. According to the seller/distributor there is nothing wrong with the unit so I am back at square one. I've decided not to go with a minimax and got a refund and will start looking at ...
Are my speakers supposed to do this? Ykm - I don't think it's the amp. The person who sold me the EE MM has a dealer who pairs this preamp with the SAME power amp, Belles, that I am using.
Are my speakers supposed to do this? Ykm,The output impedance of the EE MM is 1.5Kohm which is high for a tube pre if I'm understanding this right. My previous pre had a LOWER Z and I had no problems matching with my Belles SS amp (100 Kohms). There is definitely something wrong with...
Are my speakers supposed to do this? I'm pretty sure it's the preamp and the person who sold it to me seems to agree. This one's going back and a replacement is on the way. Thanks for all the suggestions and insight. |
