Telarc recording quality
Cpdunn, don't fall into the trap, don't go from enjoying the music to listening for the flaws. I assume your comparing Telarc to the other mass market labels, to which it is definitely superior. Many of the comments on this post are comparing it t...
SACD my thoughts at this time.....................
I think it's interesting that Cornfedboy's thread about coping in an age of uncertainty is still topical after almost 3 years now. There's no question that all things being equal, SACD is superior to redbook. The issue is SACD vs DVD-A, not vs. re...
SACD Opinions: Gimmick? Like it? Don't? Why?
Jb3, if you decide to go high resolution, do yourself a favor and get a universal player that can handle both SACD and DVD-A so you won't be a victim of the format war when it finally ends.
Speaker setup for HT in $2000 range
Only you can answer that, listen and you'll know. Lots of people are happy with a simple 2.1 setup for HT and you can always add rears down the road.
Speaker setup for HT in $2000 range
The 805s would be better, but you'll still need rears and a subwoofer, so it's not an even comparison in terms of price.
Tubes for B&W 803 good?
Doodle... I have an ARC 100.2 ss amp driving 802 Matrix IIIs. Definitely go with a ss amp for the B&Ws to get the most out of them, but I strongly recommend a tubed preamp based on extensive auditioning. I have heard Nautilus 802s with a simil...
Tubes for B&W 803 good?
I have a solid state amp and tube pre-amp (ARC LS-15) with 802 matrix IIIs. I love what the tubes did in smoothing out the highs compared to ss pre-amps I tried. ARC pairs up pretty well with B&Ws.
Decent SACD?
Ben_...btw, What cd player are you using that beat the Ikemi? I own one, that I have been very pleased with, but am always looking for ways to upgrade. Also, just to stay on topic, I think you need a dedicated redbook player to get the most out of...
higher end cd player
I agree with Theo, the Linn is a fine player, reasonably priced and has excellent build quality. It also meets your criteria. If you like the Arcam, you'll love the Ikemi.
Best Portable Sound
Definitely the ipod. I have the 15 GB version, which is slightly thinner and lighter than the 20 and 30 and holds 3500 songs. Nice sounding headphones and can be hooked up to a radio/stereo at a friends house, the office, etc.
SACD 2...for those who have not heard
Tireguy, more accurately Audio Revolution says Sony execs deny sacdII is in the works. Here is the exact quote..."Don’t count Sony and the SACD camp out. Respected executives inside a major record label talk of the possibility of “SACD II” – a for...
SACD 2...for those who have not heard
An excerpt from the article..."Current stand-alone SACD players will not be able to access any video material simply because of their lack of video playback circuitry..." Unbelievable. This will also further blur the lines between DVD-A and SACD t...
Any Good SACD Player Plays CD Well
The Classe Omega is in your range. Joesph Audio used it in last year's HEC show and it sounded unbelievable on both cd and sacd. Definitely try one if you can before making your decision.
SACD and DVD-A: Apples and Oranges?
Pmi_guy, I agree with you so long as Sony's vision comes true. Unfortunately, their competitors have a different vision.
SACD and DVD-A: Apples and Oranges?
I agree they are trying to attract different segments of the market, but the DVD-A segment (HT and casual music listening) is huge compared to the SACD segment. I think that gives DVD-A the long term advantage. Sony/Phillips are going to have to c...
