Blu-Ray and HD DVD Dan, you may be on to something.I recently read about the PS3 and Sony's vision is that it becomes a living room appliance. SACD, Hi Def DVD and video games, what more can you ask for?!?
Bookshelf vs Floorstand speakers for HT???? I have the 60s in my HT setup and definitely heard an improvement when I switched the fronts to large vs small. The cost of a good second sub will be more than the cost of going from the 20s to the 60s and give you better overall sound for both HT...
Good AV Receiver with good AM/FM reception. If you are really into radio, you should heed Arocs advice. I bought a vintage Kenmore tuner for $300 that smokes any receivers tuner section. On the other hand, even your receivers tuner performance should improve greatly with a roof antenna.
Blu-Ray and HD DVD This is interesting stuff. After looking at the Blu-Ray and DVD sites, it does seem to be shaping up into another format war on the video side. I thought Blu-Ray was synonomous with HDDVD but it turns out HDDVD is a competing format from the dvd c...
Is SACD a dead format? It's not dead...yet, just terminally ill, along with DVD-A. The early adopters who bought into sacd will keep it on life support for a while, but I wouldn't hold out any hope of it becomming a niche market for audiophiles. Eventually there will be...
Did the Cable Guy Do It? Thanks guys, it turns out it was a faulty ground, or more accurately, no ground. He forgot to connect the ground wire when he did the installation. Simple fix and the hum is gone. I appreciate your help.
Linn Ikemi vs Resolution Audio Opus 21 I agree the Ikemi does not excel on Rock, but if your tastes in music include acoustic, vocals and jazz, it's a hard player to beat. I never heard the Opus so I can't offer an opinion there.
Coping in an Age of Uncertainty We'll, as some of you know I've not been in favor of financing the hi rez format war and chose to sit on the sideline and see what happens. I've found that well recorded labels like xrcd, chesky, etc. sounded pretty good on my Ikemi compared to hi...
B&W 802s111 tweeter repair? Aarsoe is correct. I have a dented tweeter grill on my 802 matrix 111s that I'm reluctant to replace because the mid range speaker needs to be removed in order to remove the tweeter grill. One of these days I'll get up the nerve but I sure hate ta...
Allman Brothers: Live at the Fillmore East One of my favorite albums as well. Nothing starts a road trip like Statesboro Blues. I wasn't at that particular show, but I was at the final concert at the Fillmore East that started at 11:30pm with J. Geils, Albert King and the Allman Brothers a...

Rotel rsx-1067 vs Arcam avr300 I'll bet the dealer doesn't carry Rotel, so naturally the Arcam is "better" for him. That said, I don't think you can go wrong with either the Rotel or the Arcam, they both make very nice equipment and both are a step above the Denon, especially f...
sacd, vinyl, and rebook.... We'll, my feelings on this topic have been expressed many times over the last couple of years. The link that Albert Porter provided gives an objective scientific view which was sorely lacking from most of the debate over the years. All I can say at...
iPod low sound level Check the volume level on your iPod. If it's set low, you'll have to increase your amp volume to compensate.
Linn Ikemi still viable at 4k I've owned an Ikemi for several years now and think it is a great player, provided your main music is not rock. I have not heard a better player for jazz, acoustic and vocals, but it doesn't have a tremendous amount of bass. On the other hand, you... |
