Taralabs cables
I have used Tara Labs cables almost exclusively for many years. I once read that the surest way to "audio hell" was to use different brands of cable, so I have tried to remember that when I'm tempted to experiment with other brands. You may consid...
First turntable advice
Stay with your preference to buy used. Turntable rigs are popular so there is a wider audience for upgradeitis. You didn't state your budget but, whatever it is, you will get more for your money used, here on Audiogon. If practical, buy locally so...
Amplifiers:A Keeper for Life. Do you know of one ?
I've been using (and enjoying) my Classe Audio DR-15 for over twenty years. I finally broke down and bought a demo Mac 275, Mk 6. When I picked it up, it was a brand new, factory-sealed unit. I plan to use it with a pair of Quads. All I need now a...
Help me find WARM speakers a la Sonus Faber
Sonus Faber speakers are warm, beautiful sounding speakers. My advice would be not to settle for an imitation. Sonus Faber has been making speakers for decades. People who buy them take care of them. Get a used pair! You'll never regret it. For te...
Tube Amp for Martin Logan Speakers
"Everything you have, you owe to that Butler."-Oprah WinfreySorry, I couldn't resist.
A phono amp that beats the MFA Magus's phono?
Thanks, Triode 12 for the info. Sorry for the delay but I don't browse the forums as much as I used to.
What's In Your Tape Cassette Deck Tonight?
FWIW, I spent last weekend organizing my more-than-2000+ cassettes. Help! How did I accumulate so many? Luckily, I also collected cassette carriers to hold them. Now, I have a closet filled with well-organized cassettes. Yikes, could I be a hoarde...
Recommend an "adiophile worthy" pen?
I have one suggestion. When you do find the pen you like, look up the spelling of "audiophile" and write it a hundred times.
Cary SLI-80 capacitor problem questions
FWIW, I second the idea of sending it back to Cary for repair. No matter how well intentioned the local shop may be, and notwithstanding your own DIY skills, even if it works you will never trust it the way you once did. I suspect we will see it h...
Seeking some guidance on Sinatra
I'm confused too. What was it about Rpeluso's 2/18 comment that was so offensive? It was just an opinion, which is what the OP asked for. I don't get the Dayglow comment of the same day. Please explain!
A phono amp that beats the MFA Magus's phono?
Joemarsh, you said you had your MFA upgraded by Scott Frankland in 2003. Do you know if he is still in business, or some way to contact him?
opinions on mcintosh 275 V
The McIntosh 275 tube amp is a wonderful addition to any system. Just be aware that there are several versions, i.e. IV, V, VI and Anniversary Edition. That may account for the reasonable price relative to what you have seen on Audiogon.
Bidding Frustration
I never bid on anything for two reasons: First, there is always the possibility of someone outbidding you-fun for the seller, not fun for you; Second, many auction items begin where I think the normal resale price should be. Some slick sellers are...
best headphones
Zoeblake,Since you're looking, consider a pair of B&W P3 over ear phones. I know they are available at Magnolia Audio/Visual.
Vendor war stories . . . good ones that is . . .
A quick story...I bought a Nakamichi deck that had been modified when new and the owner had added an interchangeable electric cord, by Kimber Kable. The cord had a short in it so I contacted Kimber and they asked me to send it to them and they wou...
