Amplifier humming
FWIW, I bought a McIntosh preamp here on Audiogon that had a slight, but audible, hum that did not affect the speakers. Someone on this forum suggested that I replace the hard feet with sorbothane ones, which helped a little. I noticed that when I...
Hostility from manufacturers
"Maybe they would like us to send our components to the scrap heap every few years or so just before we purchase their latest upgrade."Of course they would! Manufacturers would like nothing better than for us to buy their products, use them briefl...
Krell CD Player.....Please Help
I had a Krell CD-DSP many years ago that I bought new. As you know, it looks amazing and you hope it will never fail, and then it does. I stored mine in the garage for about a year (in California), and when I went to use it-well, you know the stor...
Wadia 781i CD Palyer Repair Problem- Worst Service
I have always considered Wadia to be the top of the CD food chain and had planned to buy a 781i or a two-box Wadia when my ship comes in. Now, knowing that Great Northern Sound is gone, and Wadia seems to be going in another direction, I'll have t...
Barnes & Noble and vinyl LP's
Half-Price Books in the SF bay area carry them, both new and used, and that section is always busy. Surprisingly, I see a lot of teens browsing and buying, especially during their 50% off sales.
Any experience with Sonus Faber Electa Amator II?
I bought a pair of the original SF Electa Amators back in the early 90's. Yes, they came with the "chunky stand" and Esotar tweeter. For value, they're off the charts! They sound as good today as the day I brought them home, probably better. It ha...
Another UPS Horror Story
Jarrett,Your cautionary tale is regrettable but not unfamiliar. IMO, your issue is not with the seller, but with UPS (only). The seller had it packed and shipped by a national carrier. How was he to know it would be damaged in shipment? Why should...
Review: KabelDirekt Pro Series Interconnect
This is a very reasonably priced product, but a shameless ad nonetheless. It shouldn't be posted in the "Forum" section, it should be sent to advertising where it belongs.
B&W 801 Matrix 2 Woofer replacement
Try contacting Simply Speakers for a kit to recone your woofers. It's not as difficult as you imagine, just follow the instructions they send with the kit. They're not expensive.
FYI: Audeze robbed $250K worth of gear stolen
Thanks for the update, Taters.
JBL L300 - thinking aboout mcintosh mc60
It's funny that you would remind me that I used to do the same thing. I went to RadioLab in Glendale, CA. They had several versions of the oversize JBL cabinets with 15" woofers and passive radiators. They had the Olympus and Apollos. Years later,...
FYI: Audeze robbed $250K worth of gear stolen
There seems to be a wave of break-ins going on in this hobby lately. In San Francisco, both Music Lovers and AudioVision were broken into. They have coined a new phrase "smash and grab" since the thieves strike at night by driving cars into the fr...
What are your favorite speaker finishes?
The red violin finish on Sonus Faber speakers.
Mr. Spock RIP
Live long and prosper! Fortunately, he did both. But seriously, I'm sure he will be sadly missed by loyal Star Trek fans.
MR71 Tube Tuner alignment
I don't know about the Chicago area but Audio Classics in New York has a good reputation for refurbishing Mcintosh gear. Try them at www.audioclassics.com.
